This must be a new policy because I purchased one of their Linksys ADSL routers when they were on offer by mistake (I have NTL) and subsequently took it back for a refund saying I'd got the wrong type. The nice member of staff even offered to find the correct product for me. Besides, I'm sure they can't refuse to offer you a refund anyway? Or perhaps this is in response to the previous offer...

I did the same in Dundee and got he netgear adsl wireless router instead of a cable router as part of set up for my kids christmas. Noticed my mistake too late to exchange it for xmas but took it back boxing day after doing a collect at store order for a belkin. In good moneysaver tactics to get rpoints of course. Guy on customer services was brilliant and said that we often get that and exchanged it no problem recommending the linksys router which was infact cheaper and i had it set up and ready to go on both computers in less than 20 mins. Not bad for a girlie doing it first time!

My original box was still sealed which might have made it easier for the exchange but still no problems what so ever. I'm blueyonder so a cable router was required and guy at c/s was blueyonder too so he was able to say what was good and bad for me - very open and honest and def not on commission. Couldn't thank him enough. Too good to be working in pc world as he really knew his stuff which is so so unusual!

    Hope this helps
  • Great post = thanks again DuffBeer just picked one up from PC World @ Bangor, N. Wales £64.99 - they've gt a load left if anyone wants one picking up. :j :j

I have been advised for extra computer security to get myself a router with built in firewall.
As I dont have a second computer or laptop, so would one of these be worth buying or does someone have a better recommendation.

Any router will provide some protection as they work via NAT (Network address translation).

The Netgear adds additional protections for other attacks (e.g. port scanning, DOS)

Well thanks to Duffbeer for this, and The Guvnor for suggesting the 10% off voucher.
Picked one up earlier today and yes they had loads of 54s under the poster stating 108s but no 108s in Merry Hill, had to go to Kidderminster and got the only one there.

Dunno why they are putting 54s beneath the 108s poster in the shops, anyone in a rush/unaware would be ripped off.

Working perfect for the moment will have to see how it goes
  • I managed to get one as well from my local PC World; i heard about the offer somewhere else. They had loads left; however i did use the voucher (as luckily my friend found it). But when i was originally buying it they wouldn't allow me to use it with the 'collect in store' order that i had made. So i let it pass.

Then i went back to check the price, and well it was £64.99 in store anyway; so i went back to get a refund and used the voucher; £6.50 saved.

Awesome value! Will do great in my uni house next year :)

    Cheers

    Ian

EDIT: The 108mbps ones with the free usb adaptor were in a different section to all the other wireless products. They were by the cables etc (and they had loads left). There were absolutely none in the normal wireless networking area in Durham.

Just picked one up in my local Dixons. I took a printout from their website (although it's not a net exclusive price). They weren't on display, but after checking their computer, the sales assistant went and got me one from the stockroom. Only 54 mbps models were on display in store.
