Hi am looking at getting samsung tocco can any one tell me what its like and the best contract deal I've seem it on t mobile online for £20 for 200 talk and 400 text but have to pay £58 towards the phone . T mobile in store offered me at 200 talk and 200 text for £20 a month plus £8 for phone . I'd prefer more texts but will the shop match the online store ????
Or are there better deals

On a 18 minth contract Vodafone will give you 600 minutes and unlimited texts for £25 but you have to pay £74 towards the phone. This phone is still popular hence the high price or high tariff they expect with it.

on 02 via cpw u get:
    free tocco
    600 mins
    unlimited texts
    unlimited web browsing
free home broadband (if u want it - i declined)

all for £25 if uve been a customer for long/go over ur minutes. u could get it for £20 as some folks have reported. i declined cashback by redemption as i hate it so they gave me the '£10 off each bill' instead, making it £25.

id say go online as u then get the added cashback via like quidco, e.t.c
  • I would steer clear to be honest.

I have a Samsung Tocco and here are a few reasons I wish I hadn't:

    1. It drops call. Important ones. A LOT. It doesn't even have the courtesy to hang up so you know you've been cut off, it just goes silent for about 10 seconds and THEN cuts off. Ring back and repeat.

    2. Texting is fiddly and I'm a girl so my fingers aren't massive. It takes an awful lot of concentration to get the right letter and even then you'll probably get another one.

    3. Texting again. It forgets words that I want it to remember and remembers ones that I used once four months ago. So instead of 'as' it comes up with CP and instead of at, it's 'CV'. Very irritating.

    4. The camera is absolutely useless. Personally I have my own camera so when I take phone pics I just want to show them to people on the go. The files are compressed so much to view on the screen as soon as you take them that they're actually blurred. The flash is too strong for anything remotely close.

    5. Browsing through big files takes AGES.

    6. I'm used to it now but I remember thinking at the beginning that voices sounded really muffled when making a call.
  • My partner has a pink one that I got free for her on Orange retentions - quoting a deal from buymobilephones.net where it was free.

She loves it, says it's a great phone, the camera is great and texting is easy. This is her first touchscreen phone.

Samsung phones are generally very good, and if I were getting a new one I'd probably choose the tocco. If you're generally quite organised get one of the cashback deals on o2 through dialaphone (via quidco of course).
  • Thanks I've got one ordered from orange 200 talk and unlimited text for £19-47 a month and the phone free so an very happy with that . There should have been a £68 chrage for the phone but when i said \i was also look at a simialr deal on T mobile she said no we'll do you the phone for free .
The reviews seem generally very good on the phone so I'm happy like my son said people who are not happy are more likely to post and complain about it .
  • I agree with everything Bluebird has said! For me, instead of typing 'on' or 'no' it comes up as M6 and 'it' comes up as 48

I'm even considering getting my old phone unlocked to Orange and using it instead, I find the tocco to be completely USELESS! I got an okay deal on it, free phone with 1200 minutes and unlimited texts for £40 a month, except I never use all the minutes because it cuts out on calls and then I don't make use of the texts because its just too much effort!

Scoobydo, you actually have only one reply out of 5 pointing out potential problems you may encounter with this model and while your son might be right that people might be more likely to post the bad experiences with the phone I think it's helpful for you to see those too.

I personally had the same experience as Bluebird24 with texting. I'm a girl with fairly long nails and couldn't text with this phone to save my life. I'm used to texting on the LG Viewty with my nails or the stylus but the Tocco requires the heat from your fingers to register and so I couldn't see what key I was hitting. This may not be a problem for you if you are male or a female with short nails.
You'll make my day if I know I've been helpful to you in some small way,
so please press my :T thanks :Tbutton x

I found texting 'weird' for a couple days, but i can actually text faster than using a keypad now.

i dont get the 'sound' problems everyone complains about, or the 'cutting out' when on a call the phone is automatically 'locked' until the middle button is pressed. so i dont see how peoples called are being 'cut'.

the camera is dodgy on 'portrait' setting. night time works wonders! better than i ever imagined! u have to play around till u get the setting thats suitable.
  • I have short nails and would have been more than willing to write a good review if it wasn't absolute rubbish. The same topic came up on a different forum and every single person who replied had exactly the same problems. The cutting out isn't with anything you press, the line just dies, even with a good signal, and it's a well-documented problem.

So I hope you have better luck than most with it. Perhaps they've managed to sort out the more recent versions.
