Tesco Petrol Price Guarantee - Waste of Time!

Filled up after a trip to Tescos last night before nipping to Asda in Blackpool (about a mile away) to see if they had any cheap coke. No coke but did notice the petrol was 1p cheaper. I have to pass Tesco on the way home so on principal I thought I'd let them know that my 60 litres of fuel would have been cheaper at Asda. I wish I hadn't bothered.
Conversation went something like this :-
Me - I thought you always had the lowest priced petrol.
Counter woman 1 - says to counter woman 2. Have you done the pricecheck
Counter woman 2 - No
Me - So do you sell the cheapest petrol
Counter woman 1 - How do you know it's cheaper at Asda
Me - Because they have a big sign stating the price, just like yourselves
Counter woman 1 - (How embarrassing was this for me in a full shop) puts her hand over the top of her eyes, laughs, then says I can't see it from here.
Counter woman 1 - have you got a receipt from Asda with todays date and price on?
Me - No, I've just bought 60 litres off you lot!
Counter woman 1 - you'll need to get a receipt from Asda
Me - have you ever adhered to your price promise, or do you always use this response
I leave and as I'm going out counter woman 2 says ' He was right you know'
Sorry for the length of the tale.
The message is do not feel guilty when getting anything for free or cheap at Tescos. They rip most of the people off most of the time!

Love to my two angels that I will never forget.0 -
They charge for petrol what they think they can get away with.
For instance,Ipswich(Martlesham) they can be 3-4p dearer than the Shell garage a 5 min drive towards town.
Asda lead the way in bringing down prices.chipbeck wrote:Filled up after a trip to Tescos last night before nipping to Asda in Blackpool (about a mile away) to see if they had any cheap coke. This is one for the Moneysaver's Arms forum I think. The Grabbit board is for posting new bargains really.0

Off topic slightly but slightly annoying with Tesco and its petrol prices are when it advertises its prices instore - ie so mush off per litre of petrol when you spend such an amount instore. They are often advertising this in our local store.
Whats the problem you might be thinking? Our Tesco does not have a petrol station!

That week we had done our shopping at the larger one, and got a voucher for 5p off per litre. Sometime over the next week, I went to the other one and filled the car using the voucher.
So it does make sense to do this, even in a store which does not sell petrol. You can use the voucher at a store that does.[size=-2] If this post was unhelpful, please tell me.

Yeah but the nearest Tesco with a petrol station is approximately 50 miles away!Weight Loss - 102lb0 -
Morrisons petrol in Penrith is 2p per litre dearer than in Darlington, their Boroughbridge store is usually dearer, too.... Why?Filiss0

Something needs to be done to Tescos to embarass them over their petrol prices and their so called policy.
The policy used to state clearly "all we require is your Tesco reciept" there was no requirement for any other reciept. They just took your word for it that they were more expensive.
I recently asked them to send me a written copy of the policy, now it contradicts itself within the policy. in one paragraph it says:
"As soon as we are notified of a discrepancy we will reduce or prices to match"
In another paragraph it says "Then we will lower our prices after our next survey" Their petrol head office is equipped with "catalyst" petrol survey information, they can quickly know what all the prices are surrounding their stores (in minutes).
It stands to reason that if you can show them a competitors reciept they will have evidence that they are not the cheapest and should close the pumps and reduce the price within the hour. Will they do this? No way, they will say they need permission from Head Office.0 -

I have actuallly queried this, because I have noticed the prices instore are dearer also. The reason I was given is because Penrith is in a tourist area, and as such has a different pricing structure. I don't know how true this is but if it is is it should be stopped.0
