By the time I applied for the higher allowance, I held enduring power of attorney ( POA for short) for the person.

I'm just looking for the older lower limit application now.
I've just found the older form ( pre POA). I also completed that one, signed it and included a supporting letter. It did not cause any problems.

It sounds as though you would be happier not involving him with the echnicalities. Do that then.

  • Hi, I work at DLA/AA in Blackpool. There are two rates of AA high and low. If someone applies in their own name we only write to them .We only write to an appiontee when this has been set up officially. DATA protection. AA is paid every four weeks unless paid with their pension this is called a combined payment. The customer can ask to be de combined at ant time. If paid as combined with pension it may be weekly or four weekly. We will only speak to the person fully who receives the benefit or the appointee as agreed for whatever reason, illness, or condition etc.
  • Just to add if your grandfather looks after his own affairs we will contact him where ever....if he is not well enough to do this you need to be made POA and can arrange this through your local JCP and they will visit you to make sure this is what your grandfather requests. Phone AA helpline we will always help you. Anyone going into RES accom who have help from 'any government BODY' are only entitled to AA for the first 28 days. I fself funded they keep AA.

As previously posted, I applied on behalf of someone long before POA set up. No problems encountered.

Correspondence returned was indeed directly to the AA claimant but the application was not a problem.
