Attendance Allowance

Hi,
My grandad has gone into a home and my dad has had a stroke so I am trying my best to sort everything out. I have been looking at my grandads bank statements and he gets one payments per month from DWP. He says he is claiming Attendance Allowance and has been for a while and I found a letter at his bungalow saying he was entitled to it and it will go into his bank account. So does anybody know if it gets paid in as a lump sum with his pension because I cannot see a seperate payment from them for this. Thankyou
I want to make sure he is claiming it for sure.

My Grandfather gets 2 payments into his bank account from the DWP - one has an AA in the description (for Attendance Allowance) and the other has WP (for war pension).
His pension goes to the post office as he wanted to be able to draw money out on a Saturday when the banks were shut.
Hope that helps.

My father had his attendance allowance paid with his state pension into his bank account, which I then used to pay his home fees.Member #14 of SKI-ers club
Words, words, they're all we have to go by!.

If he's getting the payment monthly then just one payment for both is what I would expect. Weekly paid pensioners (says he generalising from a sample of one) get a larger payment once a month.
Might be worth checking if he can now get the higher rate of AA, assuming he isn't already.0 -
It seems to vary, AA is sometimes paid separately sometimes together with the pension. If your grandad is going into a care home and the council is assisting with his fees then he will only be entitled to AA for the first 28days in the care home. If he is self funding then AA will continue. Is he moving because he can no longer live independantly, if so as dzug1 says it would be worth checking if he can get the higher level of AA.0

It may not show up on his bank statement as separate amounts, but you may be able to tell because the total amount will be larger e.g. weekly amounts are £90.70 basic state pension plus £67 attendance allowance, paid weekly or 4-weekly.
Other than that, there will be a letter from the Pensions Service dated last April detailing exactly what he gets, how much basic, how much SERPS (if any), how much AA and total at the bottom. If Grandad is the kind who keeps things like this letter you may be able to find it.

Is £67 the higher or the lower amount. I am currently reapplying to get him the higher. Well I have been trying but the form is a nightmare. My Grandad can sign it himself but it says to give his phone number - But he is not well enough to be speaking to them on the phone about it so I don't know what to do now - I may have to call them tomorrow to ask.0

Higher limit.
He shouldn't need to speak to them. Why not put your mobile number?0 -
Yeah good idea I will do that I need to get it all filled in and sent off tomorrow - the thing is though I have given his current address as his residential home so when they send a reply letter they will send it there won't they? I would rather I could get it sent direct to me, I don't like to stress him out. And then he may forget if he has received a letter of them.0

I've just looked up my documentation. My name and address given. But I did have POA though.
I would suggest for the section on residential/hospital stays you make it very clear that he is self funding.0 -
Sorry I am unsure what you mean by POA.0
