take a quick look around your kitchen and see what you use the most, other than the oven, fridge and microwave and take it lol0

How do you get sample sizes of cif ?
I picked them up from Superdrug a few years ago & just refill them - they are only about 75ml in size and a trigger pack so perfect for self catering holidays!
Maybe email CIF & ask them if they could advise where you can still get them from or if they could send some to you!

Main thing is to check what the accommodation supply for you. Give them a quick call and ask - I'm sure they won't mind. There's no proint filling your car with bits and bobs you don't need.
I've been to all sorts of self catering places from everything from all the basic provisions - oil, sugar, washing up liquid, tea bags, herbs & spices etc plus every kitchen gadget you could think of to other places where all you get is a plate, bowl, knife, fork and spoon each, a frying pan and a saucepan!
Main things you need to make sure you have are:
tea towel
sponge/ j-cloth
washing up liquid
kitchen roll
oil
butter/ flora
sugar (if you take it!)
soap (for the bathroom)
handtowel (for the bathroom)
toilet roll - always over estimate...
Might also be worth checking how many towels are provided (i.e just 1 each?)
Plus then what ever you want to eat of course
I'd always put in a pack of cards, pen and paper, a couple of board games everyone can play and a book each to read. I have a ban on tv on holiday, and love to play games together to keep us occupied! But again check with the place if they have games things in the lodge for you to borrow.
Also some place can be freezing cold , or need pounds. a card in the meter for heating, or sometimes you can't control when it comes on or off so it's nice to take a blanket to snuggle up under in the evening just in case!
You can't go to far wrong though, as it's always very funny if you forget something and spend half the evening trying to work out how to get into a tin of beans with a breadknife, or bottle of wine with screwdriver (only to discover it's a screw cap) or putting marshmallow in your tea as someone forgot to pack the sugar... not that we'd have done that of course ;-)0 -
I'm really surprised that people are saying that they need to take items such as washing up liquid, toilet rolls and cleaning materials as I consider these the very basic that should be provided. Have been going on self-catering holidays for over 20 years and there has only been one time that I had to speak to someone as there wasn't a spare toilet roll and he didn't think they should be provided but did give me one.
Could it be due to always going to individual accommodation rather than somewhere run by an off site company?Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

We've quite often found a few bits & bobs- washing up liquid etc- left by the previous people. But none of the caravan hols we've taken in Europe have had any loo rolls etc provided.Only dead fish go with the flow...0

I definitely agree with posters about things like washing powder (I take a few tablets) and w/up liquid and things you wouldn't use up what you bought in a week. I always take a couple of good kitchen knives, potato peeler and corkscrew! Also, a good idea to do a meal plan before you go and if necessary put in some herbs, hardly worth buying a whole pot while you're away. As we usually rent places abroad, taking all the food with us isn't practical. What we do is go to the house, have a good look at fridge/freezer space, empty the car of luggage and then head for nearest large supermarket.0

If I was only going for a week I would just take some wine and a list of take-aways. After all I am on holiday:D

We went away last year and the caravan didn't have any baking trays so that's a must for us this year. They also didn't have a toaster?! apparently they kept blowing the fuses but we made them give us one. We didn't want to have the grill open with our little one in an open plan area. Didn't blow our fuse either!0
