Many self catering places I've been to have the general bits and bobs you might need but I've also visited places where everything has been stripped out by the cleaners usually if there's a handy little shop on site to sell everything a hugely inflated prices.
There are a few things I now take.
    salt
    pepper
    coffee
    tea
    sugar/ sweetners
    travel wash
    long life milk
    favourite sauce/ cereals/ wine/ beer
    tea towels
    dish cloths
cork screw, bottle opener and tin opener (just in case)
I can't think of anything else at the moment.
    HTH
  • Tin foil - for covering grill pan, covering up any left overs in the fridge & for wrapping up sandwiches if going out for the day!

Scouring pad thingy - they never have non stick pans in these places!

Small decanted bottle of cooking/olive oil

ice cube bags if you want ice in your drink

cafetierre - if you like fresh coffee

Thats all I can think of for now!
    Have a nice break!:T
  • just remembered some more stuff!

Air freshener - handy if there is only 1 loo! Also handy if there is a musty smell in the accomodation

Matches - in case it is a gas fire or hob with no ignition!

I also take sample sizes of Cif Kitchen & Bathroom spray cleaners to keep things clean & fresh during the week, plus a couple of dishwasher tablets & washing powder tablets just in case your accomodation has a dishwasher & washing machine & saves you buying a massive pack when you get there!

Thermos flask and/or food flask, to save buying drinks and/or hot food when going out for the day.
    :D I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe :D

  • I took a small freeview box last time I stayed in a caravan, great if it's raining or you're staying in. I always take my own frying pan and a small oven tray too, although in a cabin they probably have a more extensive range of kitchen bits there already. And a pair of scissors as I always end up needing them.
Well I can't stand by the side
And watch this life pass me by

How do you get sample sizes of cif ?
  • After having caravan holidays for many years we take most of the things mentioned above. A couple of other things we take are:

    pen and paper
a plastic cheap jug (for mixing gravy and custards up)
We also take playing cards or dominoes (great for rainy days)
A small radio to keep us entertained

We always take anti-bac spray and J-Cloths and clean all of the kitchen surfaces before we cook. We also always boil a kettle of water and throw it away to make sure the kettle is clean.

Other than that we take msot of the food we will need.
It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die

Before you take anything check out what they supply. We've been doing cottage holidays with out little one sine he was 3 months old and most supply a limited supply of condiments and an amenity tray with tea and coffee.

But I always find a visit to my local supermarket cafe a couple of times before we go allows me to stock up on salt pepper sugar ect in sachets.

The other thing we take is 3 well chosen toys. I normally put away some of my son's xmas / birthday pressies and bring them out so he thinks we have new things to go on holiday ( just realised that sounded awful I do not deprive him his bday and x mas are 4 days apart I have a large family and he has more stuff than we know what to do so I put bits away for through out the year).
The last 2 occ we have taken a happy land set some books a big pot of crayons & a pile of paper and a cookie making pack Hours of fun for a 2 year old x

And rather than take all your food we check the internet for a local supermarket and get it when we are there - gives us more room in the car . We do take enough for the first 24 - 48 hours though

    Happy holidays x x
