best place to buy seeds from?

I got lidl seeds last year for my neighbour, had to start them off for her and they were great. I did spinach,spring onions,kohlrabi,chard,fennel and broad beans. Between the weather, birds and slugs she still got a good harvest. Did quite a few flower seed as well they were also good.

Providing you're not looking for anything out of the ordinary I have found that Lidl seeds are excellent. They are very fresh, good size and generous with the amount
Have fun but remember not to sow too early, be guided by the weather and the info on the packet.

I like the Lidl ones and always get the carrots from there. Also Wilkinson ones are pretty reliable. I also have grown successful DT Brown seeds in the past.

Both Kingsseeds http://www.kingsseeds.com and realseeds http://www.realseeds.co.uk got an excellent write up in the press as having very high germination rates. There were a few others also got a honourable mention - Johnston seeds for example. I've used kings seeds myself & have had excellent results, but last year I only got 1 delphinium from the pack I sowed from Thompson & Morgan. Admittedly they have been all right before, but a few packets were very sparse last year.

For the basics just go for B&Q own brand, Lidl and the £££ shops. Sucess with seeds is far more reliant on growing conditions than the packager. For small amounts of quality seeds try Alan Romans and for a very good wide range, Try Kings as detailed above. This last company is the one my allotment society has used for bulk orders for the last 20 years and I don't think I've ever heard a single member complain about their seed quality. Well priced too.

Lidl seeds are great - we've grown loads of them and my other fave is Chilterns - massive catalogue but few pictures

I don't find they work out cheaper because I buy so many!!

I worked out how much it would have cost to buy at full price and it was £18 something and I paid £3 :j

I have just bought lots of seeds at v reasonable prices from Alan Romans, but was disappointed to find them come in small plain packets with no instructions, not great for a newbie veg grower like me. Will have to get on the internet and write down all the instructions for each now..

Poundland do several packs, each pack containing 6 packets of seeds.


Individual packs may contain fewer seeds than other brands but last year I wash awash with toms, courgettes, french beans, mange tout and so on.

Keeps the cost down. I just wrote the sowing dates on mine.
