Are the screwfix ones really that bad, anyone know?
Or is it just a leccy spouting off crap to make it sound good when he probably uses the screwfix ones himself0 -

As far as I can tell it is a building reg requirement that downlights must be fire rated.
You can either buy the cheap ones from screwfix and then buy hoods seperately (£10 to £15 per hood!) or buy fire rated ones in the first place.
The electrician has actually fitted my lights this morning. The ones he used are:
JCC Lighting - JC94002 Chrome.
I had a quick search of the internet and I found one company selling them for £10.50 + VAT + P&P. I guess the electricians can get them slightly cheaper than this.0 -
where is the cheapest place to buy chrome fire rated downlights.0

Get your electrician to quote separatly for parts and labour. I used screw fix lights all over the house. My electrician was initially sceptical but when he saw them, he said they were fine. They sell a lot of good stuff at very good prices.
The bulbs are very cheap from yourwelcome.co.uk, (which I found through MSE thanks) and they seem as good as from anywhere else, B&Q's/Homebases etc are a fortune.
Also if you want long lasting bulbs there are LED's now which should last years, but you do pay a lot up front. We have 8 in our kitchen and they never blow at the same time!!0 -

Does this sound about right?
I just got an email from Tchibo and they have kitchen spot lights, £9.99.
