Years ago our dog came home and insisted that my brother follow her. She lead him to the middle of a field and showed him how she couldn't pick up the tortoise she had found - lord knows how it came to be in a field in the middle of nowhere!
From then on dog and tortoise were inseperable, the dog would even beg salad leaves then carry them into the garden for her pal - although it has to be admitted that it took her a while to work out which end was which! My first reply was witty and intellectual but I lost it so you got this one instead

The things we have had as presents make a funny list but the worst ones are WORMS!!!! Especially when you stand on them without shoes or socks on!!
Also, the noise that a frog makes when a cat is stalking it!!! Its like something is screaming the place down!! I always know when a cat has cornered a frog
I always just stroke the cat and give it lots of love when it brings a present, and carry on with the praise as I put it in the bin. Ive no idea how to stop it from happening. But the amount of times we have had to look after an injured bird......sheesh!0 -

Lol! yes, I've had the worms thing as well, left in the middle of the bathroom floor in the middle of the night! Yeeeeuuuukk! Not had frogs yet fortunately, hope he doesn't find any of them!
Fortunately the little girl sticks to hunting leaves and bits of twig. It is only since she arrived that the boy has started bringing "gifts" home. I think its his way of looking after herMy first reply was witty and intellectual but I lost it so you got this one instead

Wasn't having a go at you especially Racy, but you knew that. Hope all gets sorted with Daisy.
The general congratulatory theme to this thread though, fills me with disgust.
Who's cat killed the most/biggest etc. I can almost see the high fives as to whose cat performed best.
I have two opposing feelings about cats. One is extreme admiration for their sheer beauty, but never would I want one to live with me.
I love wildlife and could never tolerate owing a lean, mean killing machine.
Please if you own one or more of these killers, keep them in at night. Give the wildlife a chance. Protect our endangered species, Shrews, WoodMice and many birds. That's all it takes. Keep them in at night.0 -
... such is nature sadly Mutter - it's a cats instinct, and often a dogs too - my old dog used to catch frogs, and I think she had been a working terrier in a past life (I rescued her from the shed where she had lived with a lurcher all her life - the owner had come back for the lurcher, but not the little terrier).
My mum's dog caught a mole recently... its a shame for the mole, but then again, a sparrowhawk keeps killing birds round here, and the cuckoo pushes all the hosts eggs out of the nest to perish... its sad to find the carcass of a song thrush which has been pulled apart by the hawk, or the eggs oushed from the nest, however, I cannot blame the sparrowhawk or the cuckoo for following it's instincts...
.. after all most humans eat meat, which has often been kept in horrible conditions, so I dont think we can criticise other carnivores too much :-)0
