Not so good when the prey is twitching and you don't know what to do with it! Then the cats lose interest because you've taken their prey off them and it's boring :rolleyes:0 -
If you keep cats you have to get used to this. They do say that a collar with a bell will give the birds/mice a warning but my cat still managed to kill lots of things.0

God this thread turned my stomach...blleeegggggghhhhh:eek:
Even if I wasn't allergic to cats I still wouldn't have one for this exact reason:o0 -
...the worst was always live rabbits. The noise from them and fear in their faces used to make me break my heart crying!
What did you do with them? Set them free? I would imagine the shock would kill them even if they were alive when you saw them...(god I actually have tears in my eyes thinking about it....not the fwuffy bunniesyou all know how I feel about the fwuffy bunnies *sigh*):o

It's not nice, but then some cats don't hunt at all. My mum's cat only ever brought in one butterfly in the 20 years she was aliveAnd one of mine is too lazy to leave his bed let alone put any effort into trying to catch anything :rotfl: His idea of exercise is to move from the radiator to the bed and back again.
As for the live rabbits, when I've been in an area where we had rabbits I would take an injured or sick one to the vet. But this was with semi-feral cats and it was rare for them to leave one alive anyway.0 -
I have a cat that loves to bring home presents, we tried the collar with the bell, it didn't work, think she may need a cow bell as we have watched her stalking mice and she is so sneaky. We have had mice and birds, I used to leave a door open in the summertime and would be forever finding dead birds and mice in the living room. Have changed it now so that this glass door is their only access in and out of the house so we can see exactly what is dangling from her mouth before we let her in. My other cat is completely different, we have never had anything from her, although that might be due to the fact that she only seems to chase pigeons and seagulls! and she is extremely lazy so would probably get fed up after 2 minutes of chasing0

3 cats in this house.
I can deal with most things - dead or alive - but I leave home when they bring me wet, slimey, hopping frog !!!0 -
Wow! some of your stories are amazing!
There have been no more "presents" so far, and I'm hoping it stays that way! But I've read all that you have said and have a box, a bit of old towel and a pair of old gardening gloves stashed where I can easily get them if needed
We have a bat nursery roost near here and in bad summers the young bats end up on the ground where they are so easy for a cat to pick up. So I'm going to make sure I've the numbers of local bat handlers programmed into my phone in case I'm able to trade live baby bats for something easier and tastier to eat!My first reply was witty and intellectual but I lost it so you got this one instead

We have a mousey box to put the (very rare) live ones in - I think me and DP are regressing to a second childhood!
Bats are the worst if they bring them in alive as they are so difficult to catch safely. I hope you don't get any brought in.0 -
We got frogs all the time with our old cat, woke up one night to find 3 frogs hopping around on the stairs! Cant imagine he could carry more than one so he must of made a few trips to collect my present!0
