Days out with dogs?

Can anyone suggest places to go (daytrips, or even an hour or two) where you can take your dog with you?

So far I can think of :
- go for a walk in the country with the dogs (I already do this, loads)
- visit some National Trust properties - although you can't take the dogs inside stately homes, you can have them in the grounds with you

What else could we do?

The dogs are very well behaved and very well socialised, they are well-used to the train and tube and buses and boats etc.

I live in Berkshire but would love to know of places anywhere in the UK - I'm trying to think of places we can go for weekends away, stay in a B&B or Travelodge with the dogs, and then go sightseeing with them in tow. I love sightseeing around the UK (I am not from this country and have only lived here a few years, so there are loads of things I haven't seen yet)

While we live in the country and do lots of rural walking, hubby is a city boy at heart and I'd love to plan some city breaks for him in 2009 where we don't have to pay for dog boarding for the weekend.

Thanks!

I took my dog to Eden Camp which is a cool WW2 museum type place near York - well between York and Scarborough. She could go everywhere except the restaurant. Lots of great walks in Yorkshire too! We went to Scarborough on the same trip and stayed at The Ambassador Hotel on the South Cliff - dog friendly and you can leave them in the rooms unattended.

How about Sherwood forest, we take the dogs to the travelodge (theres a choice of 4 nearby) and walk for miles, its open, safe to let them run free.

Or Wells - next - the -sea in Norfolk, great beach with woods that back onto the beach, dogs allowed all year.

Or Burton-under-needlewood, lovely lake to walk around, with special area for dogs to swim.

    Susieb,

I'm not actually interested in places to go walking with the dogs, like Sherwood Forest or beaches etc, it's easy to figure those kinds of places out... I am looking for attractions which *I* can go visit & the dogs are welcome to tag along... like Stonehenge? Or the Roman Baths in Bath?

(Not that I have checked if the dogs are allowed at Stonehenge or the Roman Baths, they probably aren't, but they are just 2 tourist attractions sort of near me which came to mind)

  • Long long way away from you but incase it helps anyone we did a tour of western scotland and found the small village of Invararey to be soooooooooooo good for dogs. They were allowed all round the jail museum and the local pub let them in too. and the loch is there for them to play on the beach Lovely lovely place.

people arent allowed near stonehenge let alone pups! :rotfl:id love to know of some places where i could take our dog too. as if we go out with my teen the dog is then stuck in. i now live in kent. we go for walks and the like with the dog but then when we go anywhere else we have to leave him at home. we usually take a picnic to eat in the grounds or car if its bad weather so doesnt matter if dog cant go in a cafe.

btw i do know of one place here where you can walk dogs round the grounds and that is dover cstle. does cost a lot to get in though and with a dog with you youd miss out on everything apart from being able to walk around the grouds. if you are an english heritage member though you could get in for free.
  • Hi,
Just seen this. Cardigan Island Coastal Farm Park in Gwbert ,Cardigan, Wales allows dogs on leads. It is a beautiful walk through farm animals in pens and along safely fenced cliffs. From the headland opposite Cardigan Island, which is 200 metres offshore, you see Atlantic Grey Seals in the wild, close in. If you are lucky , you will also see some of Cardigan Bay's bottlenose dolphins. They are regular visitors here. It is open from late March to early November.
It is cheap......only £3--50 per adult and £2---50 per child last year.
    Great walk in superb scenery!!

Probably not your "thing" but Pleasure Island Theme Park in Cleethorpes allows dogs in to the park.
