Keyboard seems to be okay in all other respects. I don't have another one here just now to try but will 'borrow' one from work tomorrow.
I was assuming that it was due to being a usb keyboard, as previous post suggested but may be worth a bit of investigating, just to see what happens.....0 -
Do try a ps/2 keyboard.
I have a usb and a cordless usb, couldnt get F8 or F5 to work with either of them. Not so much of a problem untill I needed to reformat and reinstall windows, as soon as the message "boot from disk press any key to continue" came up - I was !!!!!!edNo one from Microsoft or local repairers could help. In the end through trial and error I borrowed a PS/2 keyboard and away I went. So I went out and bought a cheap ps/2 keyboard for a few pounds and keep it to hand just in case

Does your BIOS need an update? Many newer mobo's support USB keyboards when booting but older ones will probably need an update. I know bluetooth keyboards definately don't work (well that used to be the case anyway!).0

Im no techie, so how do I find out if my bios needs updating and how do I go about it if it does?
Thanks0 -
Possible that bios would need upgrading but I get a bit jittery at the thought of messing with it! PC is only a year old anyway, so would have thought it should have been okay.
Will try the ps/2 tomorrow to see what happens.

It will say the version number in the BIOS or when the computer is booting up, then look on the manufacturers site to see which version is the latest. If it's a year old though and you're happy with using a ps/2 keyboard, just leave it - I'd feel the same about messing it up! - Although if there was a major problem I'm sure you could just use the clear/reset jumper.
Might be worth, once you're using the ps2 keyboard, to have a look in the BIOS to see if there's a USB keyboard option but it's turned off. Although I'd suspect if there was, it'd be enabled by default.0 -
I shall look at it next time I boot up and read up a bit more.
Is messing with the bios not for the faint hearted then?0
