F8 wont work!

I run Ewido spy checker regularly but have just seen posts advising that it should be done in safe mode.
Decided to do just that, but pressing the F8 key won't work!
I have gone into safe mode loads of times on an old Win98 machine but for some reason, it's just not happening. I am running WinXP.
Anybody help please?

Do you have a USB keyboard? It could be that your BIOS isn't recognising it?

Sounds a bit weird. Try holding the CTRL key down instead.

If you still have no luck, do this -

Run > msconfig > BOOT.INI tab > Highlight the operating system and place a check next to /SAFEBOOT. Click the radio button 'Minimal'. Reboot.

That should get you into safe mode. Once you've done in safe mode, open up msconfig again and untick /SAFEBOOT.

marka87uk....... i do indeed have a usb keyboard, a wireless one with a mouse (Belkin). You think this might be the problem?

When ever I go into bios my keybaord (usb) isnt recognised. Caused no end of grief when I was trying to reformat Had to go out and buy a cheap ps/2 one

Thanks folks, did the msconfig thing and got there. Hope pc is now spyware free now

Bit late on this one.

Occassionally F5 works when F8 doesn't. Try it to find out.

Will just have to go the long way round!

Sorry to hear that.

We also have a keyboard here with the same trouble as you. After some checking I've decided it (the keyboard) is broken.......

Is your's OK? Does it work right if a different keyboard is used?
