Morning all. Thanks for all the support. Things seem a lot calmer here now that something has happened. OH has reached the conclusion that the worst that can happen is that the company sack him, since hes ready to walk anyway that really doesn't make any difference to the overall outcome so hes diging in his heels and taking his booked vacation time and his down time and the sod em all attitude. Means that tomorrow is his last day on this particular shift run of 13 days on, 1 off. Hopefully by the time he returns to work next Monday we'll have had time to think things through and reach some sort of sensible conclusion. Overtime claims this month have been outrageous. Top of the office league table is not OH but his collegue Mr P. with 103 hours in 31 days on top of his scheduled 152. Now thats nuts.

Aw well. Other more exciting things have happened. Being beyond the point of exhaustion and armed with a potato peeler turns out not to be the best combination in the world. End result potato peeler 1, finger 0. I'm now sporting an enormous plaster with added ears and eyes (OH in childish mode).

The added stress has worked wonders on the house though. I've replaced the missing slates on the outhouse roof, sewn buttons back onto school cardis and shirts, done shed loads of batch cooking, ironing, cleaning, tidying and hand-washing. Also assisted DD2 in the mass production of Hama beaded monstrosities as wedding presents for her aunts wedding. Shes now trying to persuade me to take her to Hobbycraft for more beads as shes run out of white, red and black. They're on her birthday present wish list but December is a very long way away.

DD1 has a non-competition shooting day this morning so have promised DD2 she can shoot as well. She too small for DD1s rifle so shoots the next best thing, a Ratcatcher. Its small and its got terrible optics which means she can see through them from almost any angle though the pellet can end up pretty much anywhere as a result. Shes really not bothered though. Its fun. Think most of the fun comes from lying in cow pats and mud and generally getting dirty but I guess thats what being a small child is all about.

Fruit for x-mas cakes are soaking ready to be baked this afternoon. Beans are soaking, will need to boil them next an stick them in the slow cooker for dinner. DDs are also planning to bake buns for lunchboxes at some point this afternoon and they've got homework to do too.

Not quite sure why they would sack him! 'Erm, I'm very sorry Mr Moo, but we're gonna have to let you go because you just aren't doing enough hours!'

And I'm assuming his company have never heard of the Working Time Directive!?!

Mmm but they do have numerous clauses in his contract which allow them to reassign shifts given "a reasonable period of notice" and cancel vacation time and theres also the ability to voluntarily opt out of the working time directive which OHs company very strongly suggest that all employees sign prior to them being given permanent contracts of employment.

Still its all academic. They'll do whatever they please and hes in self destruct mode. He does seem to be sleeping a lot better though which means I am too.

Changing the subject DD1 has had a fab morning shooting leaving her partner gobsmacked. Its cost me an extra £6 in incentives so far but its well worth it. Brought the whinge bag masquerading as DD2 home leaving DD1 with OH who materialised after work to clear up.

Off to make a start on the x-mas cakes. I love eating raw cake mix.

    Yum, me too!

How long have your children been shooting? I did some clay pigeon once and it was brilliant... if I lived in the countryside and could do it properly, shooting is something I could definately get into (not sure my neighbours would appreciate it here!)

Feels like a lifetime but DD1 has only been shooting since Easter ish this year. DD2 takes the odd shot just to say she has and then wanders off. She hs the attrention span of a gnat and prefers to feed the roe deer or pick blackberries whilst DD1 shoots.

    Happy Monday Morning all!

Finally made it to bed at 8:30 last night only marginally later than the children. All the early starts are beginning to catch up with me. Can almost type normally after Saturdays attempts at DIY surgery which left me removing the tip of my finger with a potato peeler. No longer in total agony. Its not pretty though but the flappy bit seems to be reattaching itself without any sign of infection. I know. Far too much information.

Mamoth baking session resulted in 2 x-mas cakes, now wrapped for gifts - minor booboo when I realised I'd forgotton the lemon and the oranges - improvised with satsumas instead. Also threw together a batch of chocolate chip muffins for the DDs lunch boxes which should keep them quiet for the rest of the week. Mixed Bean Casserole was a success although I ran out of space in the slow cooker so only stuck in 1 can of tomatos, but I did up the beans to 600g dried weight to finish off a couple of packets. Without kidney beans it would have been very bland looking and it definately needs more of a kick so next time round I'll stick in some chillies or some cayenne pepper. Overall it wasn't half bad and I got eight enormous portions seven of which are now crammed in the freezer.

I'm being tortured by the dentist this morning so may venture into Lidl as its next door it seems daft not to, at least then I can get some sensibly priced bread. Then its yet more housework as I'll have OH underfoot for the remainder of the week which means I'll be muttered at for doing domesticated things as he needs chaufeuring too and from the garage and wil want a hand with project Land Rover as well as numerous cups of coffee delivering and many complimentary comments. Its much like having another child around, men appear to need constant praise for everything from washing up to putting their own laundry into the washing basket. Not that it happens very often.

The PCs playing up again. Thought I'd lost a 300 word DooYoo review but it decided it was going to let me have it back after it had bluescreened and rebooted. Thats todays two done. Couldn't have faced doing a third. Almost at £35.

Had an e-mail from DD1s 50+ year old shooting partner complimenting me on her behaviour and her enthusiasm. Hes volunteered to partner her again. She'll be most impressed as she likes him a lot, hes a very grandfathery person.

Off to do something with my teeth to placate the dentist who is adament I should be flossing, probing and brushing for 5 minutes twice a day. Mind you this is the same dentist who berrates me for feeding the DDs fruit between meals so I tend to ignore most of what she says.

Its Tuesday already. Have barely had any sleep again thanks to a row at 11:300pm with OH some three hours after I went to bed. Couldn't string a sentance together at 8:30pm was in no mood to discuss anything at 11:30. Didn't want to move when the alarm went off but needs must.

I think being tired is making me super touchy but I'm not overly convinced its just that. OH mentioned going trouser shopping yesterday afternoon after work then arranging to have them altered in time to collect by Thursday. Yep. Last minute but just about doable. Instead he went to sleep then went to the rifle range and then dropped his rifle in at the gunsmith because of a problem with the trigger. OK. Meanwhile a £20 restaurant voucher appears on the noticeboard at school with an expiry date of Wednesday free to any home. I suggest we go out to lunch without the DDs and am told its a no go becuase he has too much to do between now and Friday. Have got over feeling angry, now feeling rather disappointed that he thinks so little of me that wedging in 45 minutes for lunch is too much to ask.

So any how plans for today:

    • Go to work early so that I can leave early to collect OH from the tow bar fitting place
    • Return OH to towbar place when job is done
    • Clean 2 bathrooms (scrubbed the loos yesterday but the rest needs doing)
    • Pack bags for the DDs weekend away to stop them wearing the stuff they're taking
    • Work out what the heck I'm going to wear
    • Dig out shoes to go with the above
    • Attempt to get on top of the laundry before we depart
    • Get DDs to hairdressers immediately after school ends
    • Stay late at school to make up the time skived off at the hairdressers
    • Sort out something for dinner curry in slow cooker
    • Load dishwasher as I don't seem to be able to keep on top of the washing up at the mo.
