Have an OH free day as hes going to his friends to help him untinker his modifications to his sons go-kart. Hopefully a combination of 2 stroke fumes and manly bonding will keep him amused for the day giving me chance to get something done (The Last Precinct by Patricia Cornwell immediately leaps to mind). Upstairs needs a vac as the dog has decided to molt at the foot of the bed. Have to remember to go to the vets to pick up her medicine as we're on the verge of running out. No doubt flylady will have something impossibly ridiculous on the list of manic cleaning tasks required today. House is still not worthy of a visit from Granny or anybody else come to think of it.

Am anticipating the DDs being hell on earth this morning much like the zombies of the living dead. DD1 went to an awards ceremony last night wearing her smartest clothes and carrying a matching handbag much to our amazement, neither of us knew she had that particular one, she'd even brushed her hair and attempted to put it up and even applied shiny lip balm. Clearly she gets none of these talent from me. She was presented with both a trophy and a medal for her shooting from the club and was far too excited to sleep last night. Finally threatened her at 10:30 after she'd woken me up for the second time to remind me she'd won something for being good at something. Having spent half an hour being told by her brain washed SENCo that she doesn't do this or this or sthis and has the attention span of a goldfish and a delete button on her brain this makes a very pleasant chnage. The child can do anything she wants to do and do it well. She hates school appart from swimming and art and really doesn't want to be there. I did briefly consider removing her from school entirely and home educating her using museums and castles and practical things to ge around her hatred of books but in the long term I think she'd be even further behind as she'd miss out on the social interaction with other children which is crucial.

It feels like lunchtime already. Had a mad start to the day when armed with only a hammer, a screwdriver and a jigsaw (the electric type) I single handedly demolished all the built in shelves in a giant storeroom. Now have enough t&G flooring to floor schools atci and complete project build it on the landing upstairs and spent a fun filled half hour generating lots and lots of kindling for the fire which will save me buying sticks in and more importantly saves me doing it outside in the poutring rain with a handsaw. OH is coming to collect all the surplus timber tonight to get it out of the way. We should be able to store enough timber to see us through next winter too. Its saving us a small fortune as kindling is £4 a box and usually lasts 10 days at most, much less if the pyromaniac DDs are involved.

2 rooms completely stripped, 2 partially stripped and 2 that don't look like any attempt has been made to do anything with them. Still Friday is a whole 48 hours away.

Told my boss my master plan for avoiding paying childcare over Feb half term by doing v. little work other than letting builders in and out. Amazingly he agreed. Hes away on holiday for the week so was v. glad that he didn't need to talk anybody into babysitting the builders. Now have to work out just how few hours I can get away with actually doing and more importantly find something v. noticable to do with my time but which actually doesn't take much effort at all. Will ponder that one.

Have been reminded that the big pile of woodchip is still sitting where the greenhouse is going and that the teacher in question would like the greenhouse installed, glazed and in use v.v.soon. Was tempted to suggest she asks the boss if he'll pay overtime for this but I already know the answer besides which there aren't enough hours in my life as it is without resorting to working more for the taxmans benefit. Perhaps I'd have more time if I spent less time surfing but I enjoy it dammit. Lifes too short to spend it doing things that you don't want to do at the expense of things you do want to do.

Accidentally discovered that today is the day the Boots 75% of sale starts. Am v. tempted to peruse their wares on the off chance of finding some spectacular goodies but the last time i was in a store the stuff was the left over tosh that no one really wants no matter how cheap they are. I will resist. Especially as the website is down. I know. I've checked it twice so far.

    Coffee break time.

Escaping from the disaster zone that id DD2s room. Have filled 1 v. large bag with outgrown clothes, of course they are all her very most favourite items in the entire universe but theres no way a 7 year old can continue wearing age 4 clothes as mini tops. Still can't get everything in her drawers so am overflowing into the dolls house. Will be able to have another blitz once the weather warms up a bit as there are a lot of jumpers which won't fit at all next winter so its daft keeping them.

Have also thrown out a bag of junk comprising of assorted 3D creations from school mostly toilet rolls held together with tons of selotape. Will attack the floor with the vac hoping that Henry doesn't eat too many Go-gos before tackling the lower half of the stairs and the dining room. Could also do with blitzing the downstairs loo after discovering that someone exploded in it but have caked the offending cling-ons in bleach in the interim. Oh the joy of children although I suspect thata the children had nothing to do with it and so will be having words with OH too. Lazy git.

  • Must. Stay. Away. From. Boots. 75%. Sale.

Okay so you don't like milk! Cheese was going to be my next suggestion. And you're also veggie.......erm - I give up!!! I think I'd have to live off chocolate too.

Well done with all the hard work at the school I hope they think you are great, because I do!

And well done to whichever DD's won the prize!! Tell her I said I think she's great.

DS2 needed a SENCO in his early years but I found they love doom mongering. I think mine was pleased she had a reason for existing. He doesn't need one at all now!

  • Hi moo

I may have meandered into the Boots sale in store today  was all good - 2 household items we needed and usually pay £10 each for - if I can't find for less. In addition to this no less than 4 gifts all for the happy price of £16.60 :D. I seem to be spending alot on gifts at the mo. but considering I am buying a £20 gift for £5 and will not be adding to it I know it will save me a fortune come birthdays (and next Christmas :o). If I didn't try and buy things now and in the year when I spot a bargain i would really struggle to buy for my closest friends and family as money is just constantly tight.

Anywho you seem to be doing fab on your own target.

Mmm but being fab is never ever good enough and is merely an indication that around each corner something rather expensive lurks.

OH returned from the dentist almost an hour later than expected looking rather grey and clutching a bill for almost £300. Turns out the oozing abcess in his mouth is there because two teeth are dead but salvagable requiring root canal work and in-cavity antibiotics and temporary fillings and permanent fillings and x-rays and several arms and a few legs. He can't eat as its too painful so resorted to getting spectacularly drunk instead. At least he managed to get a reasonable nights sleep though unlike those of us who had to attempt to sleep through the death rattle snores of the recently inebriated.

Surfed the Boots on-line sale but was rather disappointed. Anything that wasn't little old lady smellies or toys for v. small children had sold out. I really don't need to stash stuff for another 11 months unless I really have to. It defeats the whole point of decluttering. Besides I'm aiming to pay for this years pressies from survey vouchers. £12 of shopping vouchers arrived from Toluna on monday and having done the worlds most tediously dull unimaginative 45 minute survey ever this morning (of the is your 7 year old child available now variety) I've claimed a £10 voucher from elsewhere. Still a very very long way to go though.
