Financial faux pas and other disasterous decisions

I had vaguely thought I ought to tackle the kitchen today. I thought that if I go in there & do 30 minute bursts of activity I might fool myself into not realising that I am spending my holiday cleaning.
Shortly before Christmas DD3 (15) finally confessed that she is pregnant. Having spent months in a head in the sand panic she has no option but to have the baby which is due at the end of March (gulp!). Apart from all the other OMG thoughts swirling around my head, there is "OMG the house will be full of midwifes & Health Visitors and the Dastardly Seducers Parents and other folk that assume that a house is normally clean & tidy". At least I replaced the rotten floorboards in the kitchen this year so they can at least pick their way in safety through the mountains of debris.
My other delightful task for today is to tell my ex-husband that he is about to become a grandfather. I agreed that we would wait until after Christmas and somehow I also agreed that I would be the one to do it.0 -

Pregnancy is a very scary place to be no matter how old you are. To have gone through the first six months unable to tell you must have been awful for DD3. Still life happens whether you want it to or not. Good luck tellling the ex. I don't envy you that task.
Oven is now clean marginally less disgusting than it was several hours ago. Stuck the shelves and shelf supports in the dishwasher on an extra long extra hot wash but will still need to scrub them in the sink once I've soaked them in bio washing powder. Still its a start.
Tardis like food cupboard has been cleaned and rearranged with oddments from other cupboards thrown in. Have discovered I own 15kg of flour and almost 30kg of pasta. Threw out some a garlic brick previously known as garlic granules which were unsalvagable. Now need to work out what to do with the stuff thats cluttering the worktop which previously fitted in the cupboard but will no longer fit no matter what. I know. I've tried.
Two cupboards down, 7 cupboards and 8 drawers still to go. Still while I'm cleaning I'm not sales shopping.Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500 -

Congratulations Helen105 - it's good to see you have kept your sense of humour (I didn't half laugh at the dastardly seducer bit), or is it a case of if you don't laugh you will cry? It's a shame the baby is due at end of March, and not end of May as you could have got away with having them stay in the garden when they visited :rotfl::rotfl:. Still while I'm cleaning I'm not sales shopping.
My lovely friends and family have noted my new-found interest in cooking/baking and have thoughtfully bought me all sorts of gadgets and books. I sadly have the smallest kitchen in the world and have nowhere to put them. I do have a lot of sh*te in cupboards though....I sense a clearout0 -
I don't think the size of the kitchen has anything to do with it. Mine is enormous by local standards and is easily the untidiest too.Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500

2010 is going to be the year I declutter. I keep saying it every year but I mean it. I have so much rubbish in the cupboards at the top of my wardrobes, so I am going to start there. My plan is I can then move rubbish from the kitchen cupboards into them! Then I can use the kitchen cupboards for stuff such as cups and plates and other kitcheny items.
Also have clothes from size 10, 12, 14, 16 and I am determined to lose 3st by September, and if I don't, then all the clothes that are not the size that I am by September will go to charity. I've several suitcases and black bin liners full of them taking up floor space. Am also ashamed to say there's a load taking up the top bunk of the kids beds, meaning DS1 has to share a bed with DS2 (it's a double, and they like sharing though in my defence)Start Date: 27/11/2010

Mine like sharing too. DD1 has twins and DD2 a double but they always end up in DD2s bed together. Makes you wonder if you should maybe turn the heating up a tad although on longer would be an improvement.Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500

The power of positive thought is not working. My kitchen is still not cleaning itself. Off to attempt phase two whilst encouraging the DDs to write many thank you letters.Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500
