are the govt making matters worse with the interest rate so low at the moment , are people getting mortgages now who will not be able to afford them when eventually it does go back up

    Mortgage-free Glee!
But the problem with this is....people will start to believe that upturn is on its way and start to buy.

How? There are no mortgages to be had. Whilst the banks still in business may still be lending at 2007 levels there are so many lenders who have gone - Northern Rock, Bradford & Bingley, all Irish Banks, all Icelandic banks, Fortis, the UK building societies....

There cannot be an upturn in the UK housing market, surely. It's just not possible.

I detect that cynicism with what the government spews is on the rise.

During the good times people got lazy and didn't ask questions or think for themselves too much. Therefore the mechanisms behind the boom - silly amounts of lending - were never questioned or even hailed as a sign of strength and economic prowess.

The rapidly swelling impact of the economic tsunami however seems to be waking a few people up and they are finally starting to ask questions.

Really? Aside from here, I dont know of many people who are even questioning it. Why? Because as we have established on another thread so many people dont understand economics they leave ot to other people who plainly dont understand economics to try and cobble together some semblence of containment out of it.

We will start seeing it soon when we are hit in our pocket for all this, then people will wake up and say "why has my tax gone up!"
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

<sarcasm>Because clearly the Gubmint has our best interests at heart.</sarcasm>

A big part of the reason that I wanted to move my family across the planet is that I have no desire for my children to bail out the current and past socialist errors of the UK. Sorry to jump ship but then, hey, I never voted for those idiots.

Bit rich from someone who managed a hedge fund and worked in the banking system;) It's OK for my kids to bail out the current and past errors of you bankers?

Yup, can't see those bankers for dust......they are all sunning themselves on exotic beaches:rolleyes: and blaming the socialist government. You couldn't make it up.

Rudd is an utter idiot. $2000000000 spent on bailing out 2nd hand car dealers on the
Paramatta Road! There isn't a word to describe the man that won't be !!!'d out. He was elected claiming he was a fiscal conservative; he lied.

I wouldn't shed a tear were he shot. Of course I wouldn't wish it on him.

Well the Aboriginal thing is a toughie.

For a start, it was their country before Cap'n Cook showed up and decided to argue the toss.

The way they're treated now is a cluster fck too. They get double dole so there's no incentive to work. Actually I have an ambition to sort out the Aboriginal problem. It's a very long term aim though.
