This is great ammunition for the Tories, as soon as they all stop laughing they will be quoting this as an indication that Labour is out of touch with reality
  • But the problem with this is....people will start to believe that upturn is on its way and start to buy. This is the second MP talking about this. It may work? Nobody knows.
  • The thing is she is telling a lot of people what they want to believe. If it' wasn't for the difficulty in obtaining mortgage finance then perhaps it would work.

As it is a lot of the people who will believe this and rush out to buy will find they can't get a mortgage anyway.

It's just a desperate attempt to win votes.

Margaret Becket has completely lost her marbles.

No mention of a boom from Beckett at all, only an upturn.

This sounds more like a boom than an upturn, WT.

"....when the up-turn comes, there will probably be a mad rush..."

Has our housing minister not studied the aftermath of previous downturns in the housing market?

But that's almost not the worst thing about her comments.

She admits her "anecdotal evidence" comes from Estate Agents :rotfl:

Critical thinking, Margaret? But then, the government has even more of a vested interest in an upturn than our EA friends whose businesses are about to go under.
  • probably quite a few of the MPs need to get rid of their second homes quickly before their value falls further hence their need to talk up the market. bet it wont work though. on second thoughts they might get rid of the house at a higher than market price to some interested party who they have done favours for in govt contracts or tax breaks in policies etc (eg like browns present right hand man did while he was in the EU for aluminium for that russian, surely there must be some quid pro quo behind the scenes for these highway robbers to give selective tax breaks or policy changes that selectively favour some business contacts.)

There's a good story here, bubbles.

Which Labour MPs will be the first to put up their London houses for sale BEFORE the election ;) ?
But the problem with this is....people will start to believe that upturn is on its way and start to buy. This is the second MP talking about this. It may work? Nobody knows.
No chance. People don't take the risk on losing more than their entire annual salary on a house on the say so of the government.
  • and since when did people believe a politician?
there is zero evidence to back up this irresponsible statement.

another example of cheap spin. I don't believe for a moment that can this rubbish can be put down to an 'out of touch' politician.

    we're being lied to.

good grief no, that would smack of knowing what you are talking about - something this shower of a government are simply incapable of doing.

Sounds like a tactic of this stupid goverment

People will read it and think they are missing out so will rush out and buy.

Damn I hate the Labour Goverment....even more now for believing estate agents

Seems about right, only yesterday a friend of mine said she wanted to buy now as the market would be back to normal in a few month time according to the government.
    In Progress!!!
