Help needed please

I'm not sure this is in the correct place as I've never been in this section before but I really could do with some help.

If you buy a wireless laptop and take it abroad how are you billed for your internet time? I don't mean in a hotel or airport etc, I mean in the middle of no where.
This would be out in the middle east btw.

1. You'd need to be in range of a Wireless internet service. This place lists most worldwide:- http://www.hotspot-hotel.com/site/index.php
2. You will be billed according to the tarrif's listed on their "welcome" page - the welcome/login page will be shown when you connect to the network, and open your internet browser. You'll have to buy credit in order to gain access to the internet.

Sre you really hoping for internet access "in the middle of nowhere" in the Middle East?


If you're on about wireless internet access in terms of using a 3G wireless card in the laptop, then you'll have to check the coverage of the provider (eg Vodafone).

Thank you so much, that's exactly the information I needed and you explained really well, even I understood it lol

The 'middle of nowhere' scenario was because every time I asked anyone, they just kept saying oh just use the one in the hotel, aiport etc so I was getting a bit frustrated as to how to explain that this might not always be possible.

It will either be free or not cheap in hotel or airport

I don't know much about roaming data rates for the phone network, but they can be 3 or 4 times higher than at home

Take a look at the Onspeed accelerator software, which compresses the bandwidth used. It's normally £25 for a year, but in PC World for £9.99

you can compare the networks' tariffs via the product details here - I don't know anywhere to look for a chart, but the roaming tariffs aren't easy to see

I've been thinking about using an old 3g phone as a modem via Bluetooth - cheaper than those plug-in 3g datacards - I don't know much about it yet; so far I've got a Bluetooth usb dongle, and downloaded the latest version of PC Suite from the Nokia website ...... it isn't clear whether you can get the 3g SIM only
