Putting XP onto Acer Aspire one

Hi All,

Ive just bought an Acer Aspire One (the one with a 120gb hard drive for £150 from Asda - bargain!)

As you may know it comes with Linux. I have loaded Windows XP onto it with no problems other then a few snags - it wont find my wifi or ethernet connection.

I figure that it is more than likely that XP doesnt have the inbuilt drivers for these. How do I go about getting the correct drivers - I think the recovery disc wont have them as its a linux recovery disc.

Should I search the net on a different computer and down load them on to a usb stick? Will this work?

Anyone had similar problems?

http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/notebook/as_one_110.html All drivers there. If you can't get online you will need to put them on a USB stick using another computer

Will be interested to hear how it runs XP as I heard reports that the machine woud not/is not be powerful enough?

I have (had one) until it died, and it had XP on it, It was a bit slow, even browsing the net can be slow, does the job though

I used to have an Asus eee which had XP on it and it worked fine. The Asus had a slower processor as well, so I dont think I will have any problems.

Nireland guy - can I ask why yours died?

Just wouldn't come on, the green power light came on but no harddrive or screen.

Youve got me worried now! Was yours still under warranty? Did you return it.

Yes got it fixed and sold it on ebay

I run XP on my AAO and work fine and dandy. Only thing i have found that runs slow is when I do any photo processing in Elements, but that will be just a ram thing, apart from that no worries at all

Just remember that it is not a NOTEbook, it is a NETbook, so if you buy one expecting it to be as powerful as a laptop, then you will be disapointed. But use it for what it is designed for and you will not be disapointed

I was thinking of upgrading the memory in mine from 512mb to 1.5gb but I have heard you have to take it apart to get to the unused memory slot. Did you do this to yours and if you did, did it effect your warranty at all.
