Try rolling back the driver - it may be that Roxio has installed new drivers that are not suitable?
What OS?0 -
i'm new at this and still learning.how do i roll back the driver? No reliance should be placed on the above.0

Click on 'start' - 'control panel' - 'system' - 'hardware' - 'device manager' - you'll then see a list of the various pc parts - click on the little cross by DVD/CD drives - then double click on the drive itself. In the box that comes up click the 'driver' tab at the top, then on the tab 'roll back driver'.
Thats assuming you have an up to date version of XP running0 -
i am running xp.tried this and a message comes up saying "no driver files have been backed up for this device" i uninstalled the drivers and then re installed them but it still dont work. aaaaaghNo reliance should be placed on the above.0

what did it say about them in device manager?0

in device manager they are there but they have an exclamation mark in a yellow circle. when i go into it it says that" windows cannot initialize the device driver for this hardware.(code37)"No reliance should be placed on the above.0

I've just found the same thing has happened to me, and I even looked at this thread this morning! Thanks for the deviantart forums post - I had discovered the same solution on the M$ tech forums, but not for Code 39, so I was a bit wary. Anyway, I edited the registry entries names rather than delete them, and all is fine after a reboot.
I can't think what has caused this: I've not had a windows update since 11th Jan, and the CD/DVD drives were fine yesterday. All I've installed recently was the Orchid dialer program (CWDialler.exe), which had a few problems (16-bit sub system blah blah blah), but that shouldn't be touching CD stuff.
Anyone else had this recently? Any ideas what might have caused it?Jumbo
