    Jen, theres a bloke in brig that will fit a roof aerial etc pretty cheaply if your interested

    It says you need a "high gain band CD" aerial (which is assumed to be outside). An aerial so positioned will provide a predicted signal of 53dBuV/m (which is medium high). As you are using a very low gain wideband aerial indoors, you can expect a much less encouraging result.

    ahh ok ... so does that mean there is no chance of a indoor aerial being effective? what about with a booster?

    I've taken down some notes regarding other options such as an outdoor aerial (kept inside possibly fixed to the ceiling like a mobile). or your suggestion of Vision V10-040 log-periodic aerial, would any of it be any use?

    thanks!! My LL has got someone he has used previously to come around to offer a quote and I think he would prefer I use him, although he's not willing to contribute to the cost of it (as its tenants liability) so I'm not sure where I would stand should I insist or summat...

    Thanks everyone, this is all really useful. I honstly never knew how much I would miss having the chance to watch tv in my room.
