Help!Help!Is this illegal!!!Amex problem

hi, guys. i did opened an Amex card due to their cashback offer (GF is the primary cardholder and i'm the additional one) in later Nov, with credit limit of 1300 pounds. as christmas coming and need to buying some expensive item for a friend (she lives overseas) we had spend 9k+ in the first month and 13k+ this month so far, ( I top up with bank balance to meet the spending as the poor 1300 pound credit limit,e.g. i transfer 8k in the first month from my bank account to my CC)however, the card was declined in the shop the day before, and phone them up, they said they gonna investigate the case, BECAUSE it is illegal to doing things like this and that is not the way credit card works, each month you only can spend the amount of the credit limit. so now they frozen our account.
when i ask them what sort of the law which define it is ILLEGAl, she cannot answer... so i need some sort of advice or law (e.g. from FSA) to back me up when they phone me next week...
any one here could help, i will be really appreicated.

It may not be illegal but operating a CC in credit is frowned upon by many a bank and they can and have frozen account which have been operated like this.

i do appreciated that but they did NOT give me enough credit to spend and that is the only way to meet the monthly spending plus they did not say a word in month one!!!

are they breach the contract for suspend my account!!!???

Exactly. Or you could start using the card like a credit card if Amex defrost your account.

It's not your account for a start, and it's their money your spending so they can let you spend or not in this case what they want.

Assuming when you use 'k' you mean hundreds and not thousands as it's supposed to represent?

i have a virgin amex myself and done the BT on it, so gone leave it aside for a while
