with all this talk about banks folding, a question has come to mind ref the company sharesave scheme i take part in
it is one which is run by computershare run for the company i work for (the ins co i work for is owned by a british bank)
if one or the other was to collapse would my money be safe (i know if the bank went the shares i own would be worthless) but what about the money you pay in each month for a set period of time , ie 3/5/7 years and at the end of the period you can chose to either buy the shares at a price set at the start or have your money back.
what would happen to the money i have been saving? would it be protected?? as its not shares at that point??

With a conventional sharesave you dont buy the shares until you excercise the option at the end of the term. The money should be treated as a deposit until that point. Although it wouldnt matter if its treated as investment as you get 100% on first £30k and 90% on next £20k. You would be hard pushed to get anywhere near the £30k limit let alone the next one.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
