Connecting to Cabletel without a decoder

I'm about to leave NTL and go back to BT for telephone and internet. My question is: can I connect my tv etc. straight into the NTL wall socket without going thru' the decoder in order to get the basic BBC/ITV channels? I recall a posting mentioning this is possible using an F-Type connector but can't find it. Thanks.
