I cannot believe they don't have some "wastage" - but presume they must keep it all for staff:confused:

I wish lol but it gets given to homeless kitchens or sold to firms who buy past date goods

I didnt think it was legal to do that now. Thats what i was told when i worked for JS and that was 9 years ago.
What is a business meant to do? Reduce to an amount that they think they will clear stock at or think they had better reduce it all to 10p because thats what people want?
A big reduction is a bonus but many people seem to see it as a right.

This may be store specific,i can only say what happens in the one i work at.
It could be down to individual managers etc.Or if they ve been approached and asked? Just summising.

  • Thats because the stores are clamping down on wastage. I know from my OH that they are doing this at Xmas they had limited stock on Deli things because they didnt want to reduce goods and would rather run out and under order at least they did at Xmas.

Last time I went to my local Sainsburys at 9pm (closes as 11pm), they were taking food of the shelves and throwing it all into a bin bag! I asked if they were reducing it and they said no, they are throwing it out. The food didn't have reduced stickers on them. I wanted to buy some of the cookies to eat that day! Don't know what that was about.

I ve been with the company a lOOOOOng time and never seen this happen .For one thing bin bags are not used in store and anything that does get binned has to be logged and signed off first and then put into clear bags so security can check them.Waste is always scanned and registerd as we have deadline amounts for waste and the targets get tougher by the week.
I think this store must be underachieving for this many guidelines to be broken.

If you want the discounts at mr s the best time is just after 8pm ask at the deli and bakery depts as well .The staff love people to get the bargins in the main (there is the odd one who doesn t want the paper work) .
Please don t think all the staff are like him .He was just been lazy. And god knows where he got the bin bag
