Sainsburys reduced food - change of policy?

Hi,

I always found Sainsburys to be a bit lousy for reducing food that was about to go off - the savings were never that great.

However, I went in my local store today at about 11.45am and all of the food in the chilled reduced section had at least 50% off - more in some cases.

There were a few different curries reduced from £2.99 to £1.25 and some boxes of 'Bombaby Brasserie' indian meals for two reduced from £10.99 to £5.99!

I was very impressed and I hope that it is a change of policy rather than a one off. Are there any Sainsburys staff here who know anything about this?

Cheers,

S.

Yeah Sainsburys tend to give pretty small discounts.

My local one reduces bashed or dirty cans of Coke from 42p to 30p, but the Diet ones go down to 20p. It's odd.

Damages are actually down to the individual reducing them so open to interpretation. If i got the chance i would do them to the lowest allowed lol

I work for JS and far as i know its down to the individual store but also the manager or fresh foods maanger would have a say as well as to how much the items are reduced by. The OP mentioned "Bombaby Brasserie' indian meals for two reduced from £10.99 to £5.99" they could have been reduced to half price so theres more chhance they would sell

  • I got a fine-looking broccoli in Mr S today reduced to 10p from £1.19 - much better than the usual reductions. However there were all the usual disgusting looking bits of food which only had about 5p taken off the price, I really don't know why they think that would make any difference.
  • Live in Haywards Heath, the store there is rubbish, hardly anything reduced. Thinking they just let it rot

I used to shop regularly in Sainsburs for the reduced food - when the linked deals kicked in, I was sometimes paid to take it away lol !!
But their overall reductions are not always that good - just tends to be pot luck.

But, I have recently started calling in on 2 other very large Sainsburys.
One reduces the price of their fresh meat/fish on the butcher/fishmonger counter by up to 75 %.at the end of the day. I have bought joints of beef, steaks, burgers, fish, mussles etc
They also have really good reductions on all the other 'fresh' produce.

Other store never seems to have any good reductions. I cannot believe they don't have some "wastage" - but presume they must keep it all for staff:confused:
