Hi all
I hope you can help.
I have recently moved to Germany and am thinking of transferring my money to a German bank for easy access etc. First of all does it make sense to do so now?... though I´m guessing there will be many differing opinions on this.
Also, how do I go about transferring this?.. I presume I will lose out if I just do a direct transfer from my English bank to the German bank, is there a better way I can go about it?...
thanks all!

I send money overseas on a regular basis and I use http://www.tranzfers.com/index.html
They started out with transfers between the UK and NZ / Australia and have now extended into Europe. It costs £7 per transfer, regardless of size (which is usually cheaper than any high st bank, I'm usually quoted around £25-30) and their exchange rates are usually slightly more favourable than high st banks as well.
Basically, you set up an account and tell them which account in Germany you'd like to send it to. Then you transfer the money to their bank account (a UK bank account) by a normal BACs payment and it's then sent to your German account.
I used them recently to send money to NZ and it was less than 24 hours from leaving my UK account and hitting my NZ account.
I should say, I have no affliation with this company at all, I just use them myself!0 -
I'd recommend your using CAXTON FX (www.caxtonfx.com). I used them to transfer about £80K to Holland and was very pleased with their terms and their service. They offer a bank-beating exchange rate and don't charge commission - and they'll guide you through the whole process.....0

Another UK based company to consider is HiFx (https://www.hifx.co.uk) - based in Windsor.0

Moneybookers.com. Had no problems to transfer over 10k to Germany at the end of the year. Cheap and good exchange rate.
