Do I, don't I? Windows 7 beta

2

Comments

  • Well I have heard a lot of good things so far about Windows 7 and had a little look of it on a friends laptop.

Question is, does anyone have any idea when it is due out as I may hold off buying a new gaming PC till this is out.

Fortunately it is only used as a secondary OS on the laptop. I use Linux mainly.

Means for me that if I had to take it off an put Vista back it wouldn't be tragic.

I thought registered beta testers for Vista got an upgrade deal last time? Or did I imagine that?

I've installed it on my desktop. Now triple boots. XP/Vista/Win7.

I was never impressed with Vista, so just use that to familiarise myself with it and help friends to fix Vista problems on their PCs.

Win7 appears to be mostly faster. The only two unresolved problems that I have are
    1) IE8 seems to be very slow opening certain webpages (more investigation required)
    2) SuperAntiSpyware causes BSOD when installing (others have seen this).

Windows Live Messenger initially had problem connecting to the internet. I used the fix that was required with Vista. Now it works fine.

I don't use IE, so that is OK. Firefox's profile is shared between Vista and Linux. As long as that installs and doesn't break the profile sharing, then I will be happy.

Again, not used. AVG, Spybot Search & Destroy, Adaware, Spywareblaser, Malwarebytes is there though.

I don't use Windows Messenger either. If I have/want to it is Pidgin.

why put off buying a PC til an OS is out....???

I game a bit...and I haven't booted into vista yet this week, W7 is very stable (besides the BSODs that I had....memory voltage too low...my bad :) )
why not buy the machine and throw the 7 beta on it if you don't have an OS

MS are aiming to release in August aren't they?

About the time the beta "runs out". ;)

On past history I wouldn't like to place bets though.

  • not too sure...there should be a RC inbetween this beta and going gold...though with so many testing this beta, if RC1 gets similar use the gold should be excellent...and stable.. :)
