EFH broadband

Options
Our daughter is with EFH, she has been disconnected, a message from Tiscali, she is confused. Have EFH gone down?

Comments

  • EFH are part of 182k group which have gone into administration.

I managed to phone the number on the message and obtained a temp username and password which is valid for 30 days. I have also requested my 'MAC' code to allow me to migrate to another provider. 'Tiscali Suck'

If your luck to stay near an O2 enabled exchange, you can move for less than 10 quid a month…. Fantastic service and reliability

Unfortunately I don’t live near one and need to look else where..

    Suggestions please!!!

    Regards

It seems that 186k aren't in administration, but have been cut off by their network provider Tiscali.

See news story about 186k. http://www.thinkbroadband.com/

There were three new 'prospective' ISPs (all owned by Tiscali) listed on the "you cant use the internet anymore" redirect screen I received (ISP: 186k, previously EFH).

The number for the first one is 0800 954 2857. They gave me a temporary login. They are open Saturday and Sunday 10am-4pm and are cheaper (and quicker to answer) than the 0871 265 7261. Your daughter will have to have the ability to enter the new details into her router configuration.

    Poor show.
  • From a commercial viewpoint Tiscalis actions are understandable - if a contract terminates then you pull the plug. 186k must have known this would be the result, and by not giving their customers warning on the face of it are more to blame for the situation than Tiscali.

However, there are two sides to every story, and the commercial background to the falling out is not in the public domain.

Using the new temporary user account/network, I have only been able to see about one fifth of websites (the others take literally an hour to load a simple html page). The network speed is OK.

I changed my router to point at Tiscalis DNS servers (rather than using autodetect), which has improved things a little (I can now see two-fifths of the www).

Tiscali DNS servers are at 212.74.112.66 and 212.74.112.67

Shared this incase anyone else is having the same problem and wants to have a fiddle.

I phoned EFH this morning on 0808 156 4776 (this is freephone number).
Took about 15 minutes on phone and they talked me thru the router setup & gave me a temporary username & password to connect via Firenet for 30 days and it is working just fine.
In taking this route, I will be running under same contract as before.
In meantime I can get a MAC and sort out a permanent move.
Beware going the Tiscali route and getiting hooked into a new 1 year contract or whatever.

Daughter has now got back on line by ringing 0870 1222186, but had to hold for an hour so it has cost her a small fortune. She tried a geographic number from saynoto 0870 but it did not work. Where did you get that freephone number from Rab?

186k are now migrating her to BT and may be able to offer her a better deal soon.

Just a pity that she, as a student, has had to suffer financially due to a dispute between 186k and Tiscali.

0808 156 4776 was just the last freephone number I have noted down for EFH.
