How long to wait for quotes?

Just wondering what the norm is to get quotes from tradesmen (central heating/electrics)?
Had a few people round last week but none of them have got back (phone/letter) yet.
Should I ring a few more?
Thanks

1-2 weeks. Some won't bother to send a quote, for some reason. Probably worth getting a couple more people round for quotes too.0

Hiya
Really depends on the complexity of the work being done. If its a big job with unusual customer requirements, then it could take over a week.
Me personally I don't like to leave it any longer than a week.

Be warned that some tradesmen probably wont even bother to quote going by my experience. Last time I got some people in for some plastering work, 4 promised to come out, 2 did and only 1 quoted. All were told exactly what the job entailed on the phone so its not like it should have come as a surprise. Got to be the worst part of getting people in.0

It's been over a week now for the quotes, do I ring them and ask them if they will quote or shall I just get a few others in?
Any boiler and electrics people want some trade from here?0 -

Good evening: If you say where you are in the UK, there are several RGIs on here who might be able to help you out. For the record, the OH tries to turn around a quote in 3-4 working days, all depends on the other demands made on his time. We are in the middle of heating season, typically the busiest time of the year for many RGIs... I'd say ring them up;)

I always give verbal estimates when on site looking at a job.
If the client is happy then I will firm things up in writing at the booking in / deposit stage.
If you let us know where you are and what you require done some forum members may be able to give ballaprk pricesbaldly going on...0 -
House in West Sussex area if anyone that reads these boards is from there and wants a job.
central heating
-removing back boiler
-installing new combi boiler in loft with new tank
-removing immersion heater ground floor
-removing water storage tank first floor
-installing 2 radiators ground floor
if possible
-adding piping for new shower
dependent on quote
-thermostatic valves to 5 other rads present in house
Electrics
-new RCD box
-rewiring upstairs (3 bedrooms, 1 bathroom) and to loft for boiler
-each bedroom 1 light socket,4 outlet. Bathroom needs 1 shaving outlet and 1 for shower
-4 outlets in kitchen
dependent on quote
-downstairs, doubling up existing sockets and flush to wall casings.
Presume 3.5k (ish for central heating) and 1.5-2k for electrics to include all parts, clearing, making good and labor. Is that too low?0 -

Good morning:
Re: Heating....not far off the mark but depends on the spec. of the boiler i.e brand and output , whether gas supply needs upgrading (highly possible), whether the RGI includes a Boiler Buddy/ Magnaclean, powerflush etc. Take at look at this guide from the Energy Saving Trust on the installation and specification of gas central heating....it details 'Best' and 'Basic' practice.

The electrics price may sem a bit low (4 showers)
4 showers add quite a bit of load
4 sockets in kitchen?
Tyoical kitchen
Oven, hob, hood, washing machine, dishwasher, light, switch for light, plus switches for each appliance, 4 sockets = 16 itema so far
There will usually be more things
It looks like a rewire minus 6 sockets (rest of downstairs).
Price £2500-£3300 (if you are wanting plastering done as well)
Sorry to cheer you up.
Why do you want the upper floors rewired but not the lounge / diner etc?baldly going on...0 -

strangely, the downstairs was rewired in the last 10 years (earthed sockets and metal boxes) but nothing in the upstairs.
but only central heating upstairs and gas fires in the downstairs.
it's a bit of an odd house.:D0
