    As I recall a typical semi in the Fleet area was about £180k in 2002. Am I right?

    Not sure pobby, probably, as i don't focus on fleet much, i'm planning on moving to Frimley Green which is down the road and across the motorway (yocale).

    If i wanted to buy in Fleet i'd expect to be able to get a 3bed semi bordering church crookham or elvetham heath (new estate circa 5years old). For appox 210k in reasonable condition (lick of paint and some flooring, you're stuck with the kitchen i'm afraid).

    We haven't had large HPI here over the last few years, particularly the activity over the last 18months is comign through now. I'd say since 2003 we've had 4-5% HPI in established areas. (there's always exceptions!)

    I remember looking around a few houses in St Ives in the early 1980s. The one bed tiny houses on the modern estates, with the tiny spiral staircase, were going for about £18-20k I think

    I'm very fond of St Ives - I had my first proper kiss there after a disco :o

    No idea why it would be a place to beat the house slump though?

  • I was in Llandudno the other week. We looked in an Estate Agent's window and I was utterly astounded to see that prices were similar to Cambridge prices. £120k for a one bed flat. But the average salary in Cambridge is about £30k... I really cannot believe that average salaries in Llandudno are anywhere near that.

    As for St Ives and Haverhill, well they are both in my regular Rightmove search and prices are dropping. Maybe that's why they are selling quicker.
  • Is there somewhere I can get a more comprehensive list than that in the OP?

    In other words look up the town in which i'm looking to buy and see how it compares?

    Now that would be very useful.

    Probably not. The sources aren't about providing data, they just create these reports and publish them to raise awareness of their website/business. It's just PR fluff really.
  • I never used to be cynical...then I got interested in the property market.

    I guess it's one of those bits of information that somebody somewhere benefits from us not knowing.

    I'm a St.Ives resident....

    There are many things behind St.Ives being in that list. A selection include:

    1. Highly bouyant rental market due to the Eastern European population explosion;

    2. Can be in London within about an hour (10 mins to Huntingdon station, 50 mins to Kings Cross) as such alot of my 25-30 year old mates are buying in St.Ives and working in London;

    3. No new houses going up in a fairly affluent area so good demand for whats here;

    4. 90 days on average is much worse than it has been i.e. I purchased my house in 2004 and my girlfriend purchased hers in 2005. When both of us purchased it was a case of houses went on the market on a Friday and first to see on the Saturday would buy.

    5. Finally and probably most importantly houses have dropped a bit i.e. my 3 bed end of terrace was £126k in 2004 valued at £165k middle of last year and I would say is worth £135k to £140k now.
