SKY+ do I have to pay for installation?

I am already a Sky customer (grrr....but that's another story). I would like to upgrade to Sky+ and I already have the two satellite cables installed as my landlady had Sky+. The standard installation charge is £60 but I really don't want to be paying that much. I took out my contract in August last year so I can't cancel and rejoin as a new customer unfortunately. Any ideas anyone or am I just being tight?

Just give them a ring, sky customer calls are free, as you already have equipment they may offer it free. You can but try. Do you have the
telephone and broadband package also? this comes free in addition to your sky subscription

Thanks Annie (sorry I can't use the "thanks" button at the moment). What number do I use for the free calls as I've never been able to find one. I did call them but they said the installations is free to new customers, not to existing ones. I do have broadband but not talk.

here again already, did it in a quiet moment.
The number is 08442 411333 - try pleading poverty, credit crunch etc.
is there any reason you do not have your telephone with them. I pay them
£10 a month for line rental, (BT is about £11.50) and i get free evening and weekend calls. My telephone bill last month was nil as i didnt make any day time calls. Good luck and let me know how you get on. By the way, Sky+ is great, you will never regret getting it.

You're being tight. For that £60, you get a Sky+ box. If you don't want to pay £60 to Sky, buy a Sky_ box off eBay but I think you'll find they're....£60 but you don't get a guarantee.

    anniehanlon,

Customer calls to Sky are NOT "free" - they are only complimentary if you also subscribe to SkyTalk (which many Sky customers do not). This has been pointed out to you before.

As a result of how you voted in the last three General Elections,
you'd now be better off living in one.

They are not " FREE ", they are chargeable to anyone that does not use SkyTalk ( very few ).

My apologies to Suzy, i forgot about the calls being free only to Sky talk customers.

Leopard, thanks for pointing that out that but the attitude re 'this has been pointed out to your before' was really uncalled for and nasty to boot. We all forget something sometimes.
Gawd almighty people are so quick to jump on other peoples errors it makes you wonder if you should bother

    SuzySu,

Have you considered buying a FreeSat box instead? (With twin tuners and hard drive).

There's no installation fee; you just buy the box and plug it into the two existing leads from the dish.

Then you can ditch Sky completely and the saving from that soon pays for the cost of the box.

Thanks for all your replies. Leopard - not being technically minded, what on earth is a FreeSat box with twin tuners and hard drive?? Is it anything like FreeView (which I can't use because I don't get a good enough analogue signal)? Might have a Google and see what I can find out. Sounds great and presumably I can record onto it?
