You should be able to pick up a free Hot Pepper magazine from any Lawson or 7-Eleven convenience store. In the back, you'll find coupons for local restaurants and bars, usually 10-20% off the total bill. There are other publications, but Hot Pepper is the most popular and useful. Sometimes you can find discount coupons for the cinema, and going on a ladies night will make it even cheaper (for ladies). If you go for tabe/nomihoudai (all you can eat/drink), your last drink order should usually be about 30 minutes before your time is up, and your last food order about 15 minutes. It does vary from place to place, though.

For cheap meals, try 100en Sushi, Joyfull, Gusto, Meshiyadon, or convenience store Onigiri. Royal Host and Swiss (for desserts) are slightly more expensive, but both good. Take advantage of the drink bar which is found in most popular restaurants, usually 100-300en. You can use 80en drink bar coupons in Joyfull.

Drug stores such as Drug Store 11 often have cheap chocolate and other bargains on display at front of the store, so it is worth looking to see what's on offer. :-)

You can also pick up cheap used games/cds/gadgets in Hard Off, and cheap used books and comics in Book Off. Check out the 100en shops for little things, such as batteries, pens, etc. Cheap, good quality clothes can be found in Daiei. Some Daiei stores will give a 5-10% discount if you buy between 9 and 10pm. If you see anything you like in a small, privately owned/family run store, it is worth haggling for a bargain.

If you're planning to make a big electronics spend, get a point card from somewhere like Yamada Denki, where 1 point on your card = 1en to spend in store, or to discount against your next purchase. With enough points, you can usually pick up something extra, like a CD or DVD. Tabacco is very cheap, so if you're a smoker and don't mind American/Japanese brands, you'll be able to puff away with little expense.

    Have a nice trip.
