some car advice please..

Bought a ford puma. Went to collect it from the garage today.
Last week when I choose this car, I asked the salesman if / to give the car a service and an mot, along with a few other jobs which he agreed to carry out.
Didn't get to check out the service book or mot info till I arrived back home. I noted that the service hadn't been stamped and the mot hadn't been issued. Also, the sales person only gave me 1 car key. I did say that I expected 2 more keys, he said he would contact a local ford dealer and ask about spare keys. I also didn't get the alloy wheels key either, and I realised the back windscreen washer isn't working(I think it's as simple as the pipe coming off).
I'm going to have to contact the garage tomorrow obviously regarding these things, but how do I approch the issues and what results should I be expecting?
Any help or advice would be appreciated :o

Take the nicely nicely approach and have a look at the trading standards website before you go

    I haven't got one!
  • will do thanks.
I doubt there will be a problem, but I guess it's worth going prepared anyway.
  • Contacted salesman. He isn't going to take responsibility for new keys or mot. He rekons the mot had just been done before the car was sold to the garage. Do i have a leg to stand on??

Go back to the garage. Politely point out what you BOTH agreed upon.

Have a letter pointing this out & which items haven't been addressed, giving them 7 days to sort it for you. This letter needs to go to the boss - dealer principal - managing director or whoever owns the garage.

You'll find out their response, straight away - then ask again if it doesn't sort it.

  • I've been intouch with consumer advice, who say the garage does not have to supply more keys, as long as it's not a Fiat and that they have given me a key that fits the car.

They said that verbal agreements are hard to prove also. So looks like I ain't getting anything.

Salesman has said he'll stamp the service log, as the car was serviced, and he will try to find the alloy wheel key and fix the back windscreen washer. That's something I guess.

Was the car really serviced or has he just said it is??? have a look under the engine for the oil filter and look to see if it clean or not as they should of changed the filter, you should be able to get MOT done and book stamped though the extra key maybe a bit harder, i would't be surprised if end up getting a key cut yourself.

Verbals are hard to prove, that's why everything needs to be on the paperwork. This goes for anything, building, hiring cars/equipment, ordering a new TV, anything, anything always get it written down.

Do you have an MOT what is the issue date?

There's a thread here about ford car keys, they cost 140 quid if you only have one key  make sure if you fight for keys they are capable of starting the car.

And ofcourse you shouldn't have paid until you had the keys in your hand and you saw that there were 3 as you had requested.
  • I'm pretty sure they have serviced the car. I checked the oil today, and it looked clean. When I went to view the car originally, the oil was quite dark. So, I can at least say, an oil and filter change has been done.

The salesman has said he will stamp the service log, but he's adamant I ain't getting a MOT. The MOT that was carried out by the previous owner runs out in Oct 2006. But who's to say it isn't a dodgy test.

As for the key situation. To be honest I never asked about keys, I just assumed he would have the set. I was shocked when he handed me one and didn't bat an eyelid. I rekon I am gonna have to get a key cut myself. I better find me the alloy wheel key tho'

Anyway, I paid by cc, so any major hassle, and the cc company will back me up.

Bottom line is (as per that other thread on keys) they have the equipment neccessary to do keys "at cost" and "cost" appears to be in the region of 5 pounds per key as they retail them for 11 pounds.

The use of any computer link up to the ECU to "write in" a new key would be free to them because they own the equipment.

    Conclusion:
Absolutely shockingly poor standard of service IMO.

If they are members of http://www.rmif.co.uk they are of the opinion that vehicles should be supplied with all appropriate keys - including spares.

    Worth a try.
