Tiscali Offer And 1899.com

  • I currently pay BT for line rental and use One Tel for free local and evening calls. I am thinking of going for Tiscalli's broadband offer of £19.99 that includes 24/7 local/national calls. Will I still be able to use 1899 for mobiles, etc??

Yes but if you would like a half decent customer service you might wanna give Tiscali a wide berth.

18185 is now cheaper then 1899 for mobile calls. ;)

I have no experience of Tiscali's CS but I note what's said above.

So, you're considering paying Tiscali £5 more that their normal BB price to get 'free' UK 01/02 calls at all times.

As you could get free evening and weekend calls from Primus for no monthly fee, you're really going to be paying £5 just for your weekday daytime (08:00 to 18:00) 01/02 calls. That's equivalent to 166 calls @ 3p each via 1899. Do you make 166 such calls each month, every month (even when you're away on holiday)?
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
  • I am currently paying £17.99 to NTL for my broadband. So the way I see it is that i am only paying an extra £2 for 24/7 free phone calls. Last month I spent £5 on 01 and 02 phone numbers with call1899. I get the feeling people aren't impressed by Tiscalli? Is this the case? Anyone have any other ideas for combined phone/broadband?

I have read that thread now and understand that Tiscalli's service isn't the best. I thought that because it was mentioned in the Broadband - Who's the Cheapest article it may be a recommendation of mse users.

I believe the Tiscali service is a CPS service and not WLR, so yes you can still use 1899 as your line rental will remain with BT. However you will end up pulling you hair out with Tiscali for your internet.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

I can second that. A few years back I subscribed to a company called Localtel to get free internet access from Screaming Net, which was taken over by WorldonLine and then taken over by Tiscali.

It took 6 months, repeated e-mails and phone calls before I could get away from Tiscali, and the last 2 months I had Offtel involved. Beware!:wall:
