Who to call to move a gas meter
A quick question, I need to move the position of some gas meters as they are in the wrong place.
Who do I need to call please?
Sorry if this is an obvious question but it might save me going round the houses to all and sundry. I've looked on National Grid's website but it doesn't really help me.
Thanks

Ring your gas supplier who will give you the correct contact no. BTW having a meter moved is chargeable.0

I read meters as a job, and speaking to people who have wanted there meters moving they have been told it is will cost them around £400+, as the previous poster said it is chargeble, so i would have a serious think about if they really need moving0

what do you mean it is in the wrong place ? what part of the country are you in as you need to contact the people who own the pipes as movimg a meter usually involves moving your service pipe - beit National Grid domestic connections if it is their area or other transporterI am responsible me, myself and I alone I am not the keeper others thoughts and words.0

Thanks everyone. There are four gas meters on a wall in a row and I have recently had the electrical supply split adding another 4 meters but they are in ridiculous places due to the gas meters hogging the space on the wall so I need to move them around a bit so they fit better as there are now 11 meters  but it sounds expensive. The electric meter men have put the metes and fuses part way up the stairs which is stupid!
ETA the existing meters are all with different suppliers.0 -
Look at page one of this document:

It doesn't matter about who supplies your gas, they will very rarely agree to get your meter(s) moved but would do it through the network owner anyway.
They won't do it FOC unless it is a safety issue that is the reason for getting them moved in the first place.0 -
If the meters are being moved less than one metre in distance, the job is free with British Gas, and can be booked through them.
If you want them moving further than one metre, or additional work to the pipes is required, then you need to contact National Grid.Sunny in Southampton.0 -

Or just leave them. cheaper still.0

That sounds promising thanks as one meter in distance would do the job just fine. I've already discussed with my electrician where to move the elec meters to if we move the gas meters to where I want them which is basically to move two on top of the other two. Then I won't have elec meters half way up the bloomin stairs blocking the way.
Thanks everyone. It's one of those tasks I just haven't got round to and realised it might not be as easy as it sounds.
I certainly wouldn't be moving them if it wasn't necessary. Can you imagine what that number of meters looks like plus fuses, fire alarm, break glass point etc. It's a jumbled up mess!littletommytucker wrote: »If the meters are being moved less than one metre in distance, the job is free with British Gas, and can be booked through them.
