my car is just failing again on its 3rd master cylinder clutch after the last one went in Oct 09 i am now in touch with Honda again as the last one i paid for the labour and they paid for the part, the last two were done under warranty. as i have only done 36.000 on the car i am a little annoyed as my exhaust system is also going
apparently they are not supposed to go til 5 years plus!! my fault for doing a small mileage ( can you believe it?) Honda reliability has really been tested on my car as i have also had the handbrake, windscreen seals, boot struts, dampers, alloys and the master cylindersx2 all replaced as faulty. Has anybody else had this amount of problems with their Honda?:mad:0 -

There's your problem in a nutshell.
Your supposed to drop a gear for hills.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

We (the AA) have examined a few clutches lately, following early failure. Many dealers don’t look at the clutch, but because it’s a component which can be abused by drivers who ride the clutch, they assume that’s the cause. Two recent examples displayed no evidence of slipping, but the friction material on the centre plate had been torn off in chunks.
There were high spots on the dual mass flywheel and placing a straight edge across the pressure plate indicated it was warped. That’s not a driver problem – it’s a manufacturing fault. I’m hoping garages will look more closely at the nature of the clutch failure, especially now the repair bills are so enormous.
Is it possible to get any more information about the findings of these investigations - my Mini with 17.000 miles has a clutch problem and I think they will say its 'wear and tear' but I don't ride the clutch and it would be useful to have some evidence of manufacturing fault types,0 -
You'd be surprised at how many people say "Oh I never ride the clutch or abuse it..."0

The Rav4 diesel is another vehicle that has lots of reports of dmf failure.0

I have a burnt out clutch on a 2009 Vauxhall Insignia with 3880 miles only. They refuse to cove me under warranty. I have never burnt out a clutch in 47 years nor have I had an slippage with this car. Bill including flywheel is £1600.0 -
My son has just bought a 14 month old diesel Insignia from VX main dealer (Net Q ex-VX car - 27k miles).
Had it a week and noticed juddering when slowing down (various gears) when car was at normal running temp.
Did not happen when car was test driven and booked in to the dealer as other problems (wheel wobble, cruise control not working and electronic parking brake iffy).
They found a faulty wheel sensor and basically are trying to blame the juddering on that too!!!!
If you look on the various VX forums, you will see that the deisel Insignia (like many other makes/models) are suffering from DMF and/or clutch issues.
We are waiting to see how it goes but posts on these forums have showed a varied reponse from dealers.
You may want to print off any of the replies you find where such work has been covered and go back to your dealer - or approach VX themselves.
Try googling Vectra C forum, for example, as they have a section for Insignia.
Good luck0 -
Of course the problem with forums is that often different problems have similar signs and people get carried away and insist something is wrong that isnt.0

When accelerating hard from low gears the DMF does make it seem like the clutch is slipping this
is normal. Problem is everytime you do that it wears the DMF out. Power and Torque from modern
diesels can kill the DMF quite easily if abused.
Yes it may pull along at 30mph in 6th gear but it is not doing the DMF any good at all.
DMF's have dropped in price £200 - £250 average. Some cars have solid flywheel conversion kits
available but some have issues, Vibration, Slipping clutches etc..Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Hi All
I have a 2008 CR-V 2.2 Ex CDTI which has done 32k from new, I have owned the car since Mar 09 and i've done about 14k in it. Since Christmas I have noticed vibration when accelerating on 5th and 6th gears, and slipping at 2400 revs again in 5th and 6th gears. When driving in cruise control mode the car cannot maintain 65-70mph on a Motorway once it encounters any kind of hill as the cruise control is knocked out by the clutch slip. At first I thought the cruise control was faulty, then that there may be a misfire or engine hesitation, but its definatly clutch slip. I took the car to Holdcroft Honda as it is still under warrenty. They told me that they were 95% certain it would be a manufacturing fault...but if it wasn't and no one would know if it was or not until the gearbox was stripped then I could have to pay £585. I have queried this with the dealer and Honda Customer service both will not budge and the Car won't be stripped until I guarantee the payment.
If I had damaged the clutch then I would have no problem paying for it, but I have driven at low revs, not attempted to wheel spin or abuse it, not driven off road and not towed anything. The car has led an easy life. My previous car was a Civic petrol and I towed a Caravan with this which weighed 1350kg and did over 4000 miles with the Caravan behind the car giving the car an utter mauling, but the clutch in that car stood up to it and was still good when I traded it for the Cr-V, I bought the Cr-V with the intention of towing but a change of circumstances meant that the Caravan was sold just prior to purchase.
I cannot believe that a Cr-V has a weaker clutch than a Civic.
I have asked Honda for some goodwill as I was a repeat customer and haven't the money to guarantee £585 at the moment.
Would be interesting to hear other stories and whether Honda have given any goodwill.0
