night storage

hi all,
one of my night storage heaters is now turning the wall behind it black ! it seems to be giving off some sort of soot. I'm wondering if the bricks inside need replacing or cleaning somehow. Does anyone have any advice about how I might do this myself. Many thanks

  • I had mine serviced and cleaned out by a sparky last year. Watching him do it I could have easily done the cleaning part myself - he also checked the thermostats and elements to ensure they were functioning properly.

There was a considerable amount of dust in there. Looked pretty simple to remove the cover of the heater (obviously make sure the supply's/supplies isolated first) and then simply take a hoover to it to suck all the dust out.

Dunno if this'll help the blackening of your walls though, but could be worth a try!! Might just be down to the sheer heat convecting out the top?
