Thanks for that, I've had the same problem!
Can I just ask, what is the difference between the two Windows 2000 options?
I run 2000 but not with any link to XP?:o

I have heard that changing the permissions on file avnotify.exe only works for a short time. The reason being that sometimes when updates take place, the file gets overwritten (maybe with a newer version). When this happens, the permissions are reset to normal. I cannot verify this as I have XP Pro and use the policy solution

use the first win2k option (just like i did for xp professional) as if you do the second method, it will just download the file again, removing all permissions that have been set on the file. the first method for win2k (& xp pro) works better as the GPO will block the file from executing even if the file is re-downloaded
