Thames Water meter application

Options
Hello

I had Thames water visit me today and tell they could not fit a water meter because the supply is shared throught out an apartment block. The water company surveyor advised me to contact Thames and get a discounted bill because my home was not suitable for a meter.

When I rang them they offered me a fixed rate which worked out £3 a year more than I pay at present (£445). I asked how they worked this out and was told it was based on the average domestic metered bill....... this seems a bit silly since that will include all domestic supplies from studio flats to 5 or 6 bedroom houses.

I then asked if all the residents in my block of 1 bedroom flats got together and had a meter for the whole block fitted could we then split the bill amounst ourselves..... apparently this will not be allowed.

I now feel inclined to cancel my water supply and run a hose from my neighbours house and share his bill......... just like we do with the broadband
...... 5 of us sharing originally with cables runing out the windows, now we've gone wirelss.

I'd appreciate to know if I can reduse the water bill further..... or am I just stuck with it.

i'm slightly puzzled? why are they saying you cant have a water meter fitted??

do you have your supply pipe fed in to your flat? because if you do, you can a water meter fitted at the point it comes into your flat. As a plumber working mostly on new builds, water meters are now compulsory, and we fit them on individual supplys into the houses or flat.

maybe you should have another word with them, and put it to them you want a meter fitted internally to your property or ask a local plumber and see if they can offer any more expert local advice!
