Simple really.
Employ a firm of debt collectors/tracing agents.
Take the gf to The Small Claims Court.
Obtain a CCJ.

Very true. I have an outstanding debt that was heard in the County Court and a CCJ issued. A few payments were made then dried up but I live in the knowledge that the debtor, for the sake of a few hundred quid, now has a CCJ on his record.
The money would have been nice but in a sadistic way, the CCJ is nice enough :rotfl:Signature on holiday for two weeks0 -
You should pay the rent (put yourself in the shoes of the landlord who has lost out on £2000 here), then attempt to claim back the money through the small claims court, but you will need an address of one of the girls to do this.
Send the summons to their parents house. Then when it's not paid petition for bankruptcy. That should focus their minds !0 -

i am a landlord and i hate guarantors like you - signing a guarantee is a serious legal document and a serious committment - now you are trying to renege on your legal responsibility - you are clearly an astonishingly clever person - why would you give your family and children such an appalling example as this behviour ?0

I think the idea of asking someone to be a guarantor is wrong. Its rarely explained fully. It is a serious thing to be doing for someone and should probably only be done after legal advice.0

There seem to have been a number of posts on here on different issues with people complaining that "no-one told me" - if you are over 18 and old enough to sign a legal document then you are old enough to know to get qualified clarification before doing so.
Most decent tenancy agreements etc will actually state at the top "this is a legally binding document - please seek advice before signing it" or a phrase to that effect, and this is no different.
There's a bit of a pattern here - the son's GF promised to pay her rent but reneged, the guarantor gets chased but in turn wants to renege on his/her own contractual commitments - I'm not sure what makes the OP any different to the son's GF in terms of "unfair" behaviour0 -

I knew that I should only ever have said nice things about mortgage brokers. Now you're getting your own back. Of course people can't rely on my opinions - unless they are prepared to pay my fees.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
Im afraid you will have to pay up - you entered an agreement guaranteeing that you would pay any debts and now there are debts to pay. There are no loopholes - how would you feel if it were the other way round?
Id have made sure that I contacted the landlord back when son broke up with girlfriend personally - but then hindsight is a wonderful thing.
Bite the bullet time and then track down the girlfriend0
