SCAM WARNING! - ExpressCarPrices.com / Express Car Prices
Comments
-
I wrote to Expresscarprices a couple of weeks ago giving them 14 days to provide me with proof that I have ever been on their web-site (my IP address) and proof that a transaction ever took place. I also told them that I had been in touch with consumer direct and that they were not allowed to add 'late payment fees' while the transaction was in dispute. I told then that if they didn't reply in 14 days I would consider the matter closed. I've heard nothing from them since. I sent them a letter last week explaining to them about the Consumer Protection (Distance Selling) Regulations (2000) and demanding that they confirm that the invoice has been quashed. I doubt they will confirm it but I thought I would give it a try again.0

Redhat, sorry to hear about your car jacking, hope you're alright now.
Your problem with Expresscar prices has gone much further than any of the people on here have experienced. My advice because a debt collection company has got involved would be to get in touch with your local Citizen's Advice Bureaux and set up a meeting with one of their legal advisers.
Tell CAB you are 100% sure the car valuation was unsolicited, it is an offence for this company to demand payment for a product they know to be unsolicited.
Tell CAB the first you knew about this was when you recieved the valuation and invoice, it also means the company failed to provide you with certain information about terms and conditions and cancellation rights. This means they are using unfair business practices and you are protected by Consumer Protection legislation. Not forgetting they are charging VAT without displaying a VAT registration number.
I would think one phone call from a CAB legal adviser will deal with these debt collectors.0 -
Maybe Expresscarprices are reading this thread . I wonder if they have what it takes to come on here and explain their business practices. :rotfl:
They still only come up if you put their full name into Google, if you put in 'car valuations' or 'free car valuations' they still dont appear. I'm still waiting for a reply to my last letter.0 -
looking for some help,i too was looking for a price for my car i too recieved a bill for £39 .,this was not there when i was filling form out and have now recieved a letter from a collection company anybody help thanks0

Jonnyt, go to your Citizens's Advice Bureau or ring Consumer Direct on 0845 4040506.
Did Expresscarprices send you a confirmation of the transaction? You were entitled to a confirmation, in writing from them explaining your cancellation rights among other things. Failure by them to send you this information (see my previous posts) means you are entitled to an extended cancellation period of up to 3 months and 7 days. Its all in the Consumer Protection (Distance Selling) Regulations (2000)
I have invoked this bit of legislation myself, I'm waiting for them to confirm the invoice for the alleged transaction has been cancelled.

Hey guys - I'm the one who opened this thread originally.
I'm pretty shocked that the company in question appears to have gone so far with this. Anyone coming from Google having problems with this company should immediately contact Consumer Direct on 08454 04 05 06 and try and get these guys stamped out.
If you're looking for a more trustworthy site I'd recommend either Parkers or Glasses - both have a good reputation for vehicle valuations and are significantly cheaper than ExpressCarPrices.com - Indeed Parkers will offer a free basic valuation (although it doesnt take into account mileage or extras) without asking for any personal details:

I have recieved a debt collectors letter on behave of Expresscar.
They have informed me that i owe their client £39, which is news to me.
I did enter the site but never entered any details, but for some reason they know my address. Dodgy i think.
They collectors com[any they use is called Capitol commercial collections.
I found out that when or if you pay the cheque its not to the collection company but to the Express company. That is not right.
To the effect i contacted the collection company for them to tell me; DON'T WORRY SIR NO MORE FURTHER ACTION WILL BE TAKEN AGAINST YOU THANK YOU FOR YOUR CALL.....
What is that all about ?????0 -

Sorry to rant, lippycow, but I'd love to see a thread on MSE headed:I Contacted Watchdog And They Ignored Me Completely
Post after post on thread after thread on MSE is full of advice to "contact Watchdog" as if the damn programme is the be-all and end-all of consumer journalism.
It isn't and it never was. And I've yet to find ONE thread on MSE where someone posted to say: 'Hey, Watchdog have contacted me, they're going to feature this!"
The programme makers of this cheap TV entertainment really must adore the amount of free publicity they get on forums such as this.0
