interesting, but rather incomplete - mainly tables of examples of costs on UK networks, which won't always be the cheapest option

For more than a few minutes use, people should look into a local SIM with calling card or callback, or one of the global roaming SIMs

I had a chat on the phone, and emailed some ideas for improvement

c.p.w.house. FRESH PAYG came out tops for cost, whilst in Lanzarote, signal was 100% as they used a combination of 3 networks depending on your location, i did a costing check before i left
never put off buying a bargain today,it may be gone tomorrow

That's interesting, as apparently they've only just introduced roaming - in Oct they said some time in 2006 - on monthly paid contracts only, and there are no published tariffs

Can you give an idea of costs? I still think a local SIM would be cheaper though, enabling calls to UK for a few pence.

Get yourselves an O2 SIM (often free)
Register it - to get the £2.50 free credit
You will then qualify for one free 1min call and one free text per week whilst out of the country:

    http://www.o2.co.uk/personal/abroad/paygo/firstcalltexthome/0,,121,00.html

"Your first call and text home is on us

When you go on holiday, the first thing you might want to do is let your family and friends back home know that you've arrived safely! As a Pay & Go customer travelling abroad, you can do just that. And to top it off, we will give you the first minute of your first call plus your first text FREE every week you are abroad. Your call can be made from your mobile to anyone, anywhere, anytime, free of charge.

To be eligible for your free call and text, simply turn on your mobile when you arrive at your destination. If you are unsure of whether your phone works overseas, click here. "

Check before you go that your phone works on O2 - and if going to USA that you have a tri-band phone. :j
