Rear view Mirror fallen off (ford Focus)

You prob tried this already, but how are you holding it in place while the glue dries? unless it is kept completely still the glue won't dry "in place" and it is even more brittle. This happened to me (astra) and I put loads of glue on it, then got really tough tape and stuck loads round it. When it had dried- over a day later (for luck) I took off the tape and had to clean a bit of glue from tape off of it but then it was fine. I agree with others that prep is the key! If it can be fixed, hope you manage it soon, it's a pain having to buy new bits!0

The sticky pad option wont work as the mirror slots into a metal piece on the windscreen, the metal piece has two bits of metal that slick out which allow the mirror to slide on. The metal piece is not flat in the middle either side of the grooves so a sticky pad can not work. The only way a pad would work is if I took the whole thing off the windscreen
If I get a new mirror I wont have that problem it simply slots in place.
If so - you've been getting all the wrong advice. Everyone is trying to help you glue that on!Genie

Its the mirror which has a arm which is piverted. This slots into a metal thing stuck on the windscreen, it just slides in as the metal has two protruding bits from each side which then slots into the grooves on the mirror.
I tried ringing around local scrap merchant no joy. Ebay prices are not too cheap even for 2nd hand one. I managed to get a replacement for Monday from a local parts supplier for £15 inc Vat which is genuine Ford part so not as bad as I though certainly cheaper than Ebayjeannieblue wrote: »I'm confused........... what is actually broken? Is the metal part still on the windscreen then?

Yes its the mirror
Its 3 parts
1. the metal fastener stuck on screen (thats still there)
2. Plastic arm bit that's got a pivet (ball joint) which goes into mirror body
3. Mirror body with mirror
2 and 3 are all in one apparently you can get parts 1 and also parts 1,2 (which includes 3)jeannieblue wrote: »So it is a part on the actual mirror that is broken? The metal part is still on the windscreen then?0 -

are you having a blonde day jeannie?
the part that is broken is not the mirror or the metal bit on the window. there is a small plastic joining peice that hold the mirror on to the window,it slides over both the mirror and the part on the window.
i doubt this is an expensive part even from ford....work permit granted!0 -

I'd kinda worked that out after reading thru the thread - which made me wonder why the hell everyone was recommending the OP to go to Autoglass etc............ which is why I decided to clarify the problem!
Its clarified, mirror broken, metal fastener on windscreen still secure in place - so pointless recommending windscreen experts... can't understand why all the so called 'men' on here hadn't realised it before... Just had to ask a couple of questions. That too difficult for you boys??Genie

i knew what the op meant when i first read it, i was surprized to find answer like "get a sticky pad" aswell,so not all the boys are stupid.
you havent clarified it,the part that is broken is seperate from the mirror,it attatches to both the window and the mirror. duh!:rotfl:...work permit granted!0 -

I can understand why some could get confused I haven't come across the rear view mirror mounted like that before but then I normal have a lot older cars
Its hard describing the way its mounted less you have come across this before
Anyhow as much as its costs me £15 it could have been worse, shame the glue didnt do the job maybe because the broken piece is so small it was hard to get it to contact with the main part, but without it it would just hang off and fall off as soon as the car moved.
Anyhow glad I get it on Monday as its a pain without a rear view mirror even for running a small errand like weekly shop0
