Rear view Mirror fallen off (ford Focus)

  • But the other stuff is a dedicated adhesive for mirrors and only costs 50p more! I got the impression it was the metal bit you needed to stick back on the glass? Am I wrong again? :) Loctite is a decent brand though, so they're bound to do a product that suits. Just have a look around the store.

Hi yes the metal bit is stuck to the screen and the mirror just slots in on the arm bit
  • This happened to my rear view mirror in my Focus, I went to the local car parts shop and bought a 'temporary' one for 12.99 and its rubbish, I couldnt re-use the other one as I snapped it , I tried all the Local Car Breakers yards and one had it in for £7.00 but i never around to getting it.

oh and a year later I still have that Temporary one.

    Thanks all for your help

I found a loctite product that should do the trick the plastic mirror is quite hard plastic and feels oily so this product should work

I got some of that glue as mentioned in post 15 and I left it for an hour as mentioned in instructions, it didnt work. Tried it again left over night about 16-18 hours, just tired it again soon as I put mirror back in the joint broke, so much for sticking difficult plastic

Think I will have to buy another one now

Did you clean thoroughly before sticking? Meths is a good one - needs to be totaly grease free (do you use a car interior cleaner as these can contain silicone which is ery hard to get clear!!)
  • just ask a random window repair man, offer a fiver jobs a gooden

Or make a hat with a stick on it and put the mirror on the end of the stick

Its hard to stick the bit down as its only about 2cm in length and it starts at one end a couple of mm in height and at only end about 4mm its only a very small piece but the mirror wont slot in right it hangs off without it being stuck on as it wedges tight into the metal holder thats stuck on the screen

1 - you need to make sure all surfaces are clean and free of all oil and residue.

2 - if you go for the sticky pad option this takes up any slight curvature.

Even if you buy a new mirror assembly you will be right back to where you are now.

The sticky pad option wont work as the mirror slots into a metal piece on the windscreen, the metal piece has two bits of metal that slick out which allow the mirror to slide on. The metal piece is not flat in the middle either side of the grooves so a sticky pad can not work. The only way a pad would work is if I took the whole thing off the windscreen :)

If I get a new mirror I wont have that problem it simply slots in place.
