BT Yahoo Broadband..

Okay.. I just phoned BT cancellation team on 0800 085 2819 (use this number not any other!!!)to get my MAC number to change to Madasafish.

Well.. first of they reduced my monthly payment from £26.99 to £23.99 BUT they wanted to re-start my contract again for 12 months. Having been a member since 2003 I said I refused to do so and just give me my MAC number!!

Well she went off and checked with her manager and guess what.. £23.99 (that's there option 3 BTW) so 20gb and 2mpb stream.. and no extended contract!!

So now i'm off to email technincal to ask for my MAC number should I wanna change any time soon!! :rotfl:

  • I just had a similar frustrating conversation with the BT billing team - and ended up demanding my MAC and signing up online with Madasafish minutes later.

BT have recently changed their pricing structure and I found I was now on Option 4 (£29.99/month with a 40Mb monthly usage limit). The monthly limit is the only real differentiator on their products these days. The reason for my call was to establish my average monthly usage with a view to downgrading & saving money each month (no point in paying for what you don't use!).

I was informed BT are currently UNABLE to provide accurate details of monthly usage levels and they kept directing me to their website which has a "usage estimator" (https://www.bt.com/broadbandusage - it's undoubtedly (in)accurate).

The nice chap also acknowledged (and this is the critical bit!) that, although BT will inform you if you consistently go OVER your monthly usage limit and encourage you to UPGRADE to a more expensive product, they DO NOT pro-actively inform you when you are UNDER your download limit (and hence allow you to DOWNGRADE and (reduce their income)). I was so scandalised by their approach that I asked for my MAC and changed.

To retain my custom, BT did suggest I could downgrade, but I wanted to go straight to Option 1 (2mb limit & £17.99/month). BT kept saying this wouldn't be enough for me, but couldn't give any hard facts about my actual usage on which to justify their pitch.

Be warned - if you're with BT, guesstimate your usage and make sure they're not charging you too much!!!

yes. your 100% correct.. I tried to find out my useage a few months ago.. apparently you get emails warning when you over 70% and 90% I've had neither. Wasn't until I went on madasafish I realised how far 5gb went!!

I'm not sure 5gb would support 2 regulary laptop users!
