Can Virgin Media double my bill, just like that?

Got a letter today advising that "I haven't been charged for my broadband service". I only have broadband from Virgin so I was pretty confused.
Rang up, and they told me the retention deal I was offered (£10/month) when moving house was offered to me erroneously, and I would be charged £18/month from now on.
I only agreed to the offer because it was £10 as I have perfectly good mobile broadband as well.
Is there anything I can do about this, or am I going to have to swallow it? I don't think it's right that they can write to me five months into a 12-month agreement and double the price, just because they decided the discount doesn't apply to me after all. I wouldn't have agreed to paying £18 a month, so why should they be allowed to move the goalposts once I'm tied in?

doubling the bill is a major change...others will hopefully confirm, but you should be able to get out of the contract freelyUtinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0
