Hi
Just upgraded my phone and changed my plan with Orange. The phone is an LG Renoir and I have changed plan from 18 months - Racoon 35 which ran out in Dec to 24 months - Racoon 25 (at £20 per month).
Given that I am an existing customer and am keeping my number, I was expecting to just transfer my existing sim card to the new phone.
But.. the new phone has come with a sim and a note from Orange telling me to phone with the new sim number to register the phone and that I need to make a copy of my phone numbers which may be lost in the transfer.
To be honest, I was thinking of selling the phone, expecting it to be locked to orange and have no sim. What do I do now?! Do I have to register the phone and in particular, do I have to do so to start my new contract and cheaper monthly plan? If I do register it, do I have to tell the buyer - does it matter? I was tempted to sell it without even switching it on. If I sell it, will it work with any orange sim? Would it work with my old one? Sorry if I am being a bit thick
Thanks for your help.

I upgraded my with Orange last month - they register the new SIM card to replace your old one. It's something to do with it being the latest one ie provisioned for 3G etc if your old phone didn't have that (so I was told). You phone them up on the number provided and they take the number from the new SIM card and register it as a replacement for your old one. They take no details of the new phone so you should be fine to sell it. It should work with any Orange SIM.0

You can still sell it, just transfer your number etc. and then sell it.0

Hi , i am the same getting an unwanted upgrade and thinking of selling on, (i asked for a discount and no new phone but that was a no-goer...)
My question is the 3g I don't really understand it? i was going to ask for a samsung pixon which is 3g, will this mean that the new sim orange send me will not work in my old phone? it's a motorazer1 or something??
I had a problem with a phone of a mates a while back when we tried to swap her sim card and back it up in a sim saver it did not work.it was on the 3 network and the sim was different?? was it 3g or just 3 network?? i don't understand???
can anyone explain sims in a simple way!?0 -
stinky_5000 heres the lowdown on 3G phones and simcards:
1) To use 3G features you need a 3G simcard AND A 3G phone.
2) Using a 3G simcard in another phone WILL work without a problem on all netwoks except for Three - Three customers MUST use 3G simcards ONLY in 3G handsets.
Orange sent you a new simcard so you can use the 3G features like video calling, super duper fast web browsing on your new 3G phone. Your new simcard will work in your old phone - but try it anyway Orange my have changed something so it might be I'm wrong (unlikely though).0 -
hmm thanks... i get that, so it is the 3 network that is the problem area!0

Yes that correct, Three themselves ONLY have a 3G network (no 2G network) thats why they people get mixed up between Three and 3G thinking they are the same company when in fact they are two different things. When you can't get a signal then Three 'rent' Oranges 2G network - and they have to pay more for that, thats why they force you to use 3G phones ONLY, cos they don't want to pay for it.
To the other networks it doesn't make a difference because they all have 3G networks now so to them it doesn't make a difference if you use a 3G handset or not.0 -
Thanks all. I will phone to register the sim and have a little play with the Renoir before deciding whether to sell or not. Can't really justify keeping a phone which will make me £200 tho! Thinking of getting something around the £100 mark as a treat/compromise. Pleased to hear my old phone should be okay if I decide to keep it.
